So recently, we have had multiple threads asking which are the best generals. littlecorporal 's Free to Play, No Grinding Path to Victory provides a good deal of information on the general path along with the path to complete the entire game. But since we recently had many people asking the best generals, this is a guide who's sole purpose is to provide all the knowledge on the best generals and everything about them. For namesake, let's assume them as "Commanders" as they are not generals.
What!? They are not generals? Then who are these so called "commanders"? Are they aliens?
In a sense, Yes since we don't really know who these "commanders" are. We have 0 historical knowledge about them except for guesses. These are the Princesses. They are the strongest commanders in the game (Now do you get why I used the word "commander"?). With some time, training, regrouping, they have the potential to become the toughest and strongest generals in the entire game, better than any IAP. They have the ability to gift you a perfect clear of the entire game. Ability to bail you out in the toughest of tough situations.
So how many Princesses we have? And who are they?
We have a total of 8 Princesses. Note that not all the princesses are OP. Some are extremely bad. Some are useful for early game. If you have 4 slots, you can only train 3 of them. So you will have to choose your princesses and train them carefully. I will analyze every princess here and the cost to train them up. The 8 princesses which are available - Sophia, Maria, Fathima, Kate, Isabella, Sakurako, Lan and Victoria.
Sophia
Type of Princess : Art/Cav hybrid
Requirement to unlock : 65 rounds/250 years or less.
Sophia is a great princess. She will be the mainstay in your team until the other heavyweights arrive. A plus factor is that she will be unlocked pretty easily, no requirement, except 250 years ruled in Europe and also, she is totally free, requiring no medals to unlock. Train her in Artillery first and then cavalry and she becomes a beast. Worth to be in the final lineup. Explosive does add up some damage. Since she has Spy, she is your fort cracker and can siege cities effectively too.
She's a great Artillery/Cavalry hybrid. Now let's get to the costs calculation.
Usually, you need to train her in Artillery first and then Cavalry and Movement.
Artillery : The cheapest artillery trainer - Kutaisov costs about 430 medals. So you would need 430 x 3 = 1290 medals to train her to 5 stars in artillery. However, the second cheapest trainer - Gazan costs only 35 medals more, i.e. 465 medals more. So we would require about 1300 medals to train her to 5 star artillery. You would also need 180 academy refreshes though.
Cavalry : The cheapest cavalry trainer - Agha (The great) costs 375 medals. So to train her in 5 star cavalry, you would need about 375 x 3 = 1125 medals. Quosnadovih is 425 medals so you'd need about 1200 medals to train her fully in cavalry. Oh and 180 refreshes also.
Movement : Diez, the cheapest move trainer is about 510 medals. So bringing her to 5 star movement, you'd need 1020 medals and 60 refreshes for 5 star movement.
Total Cost : 1300 + 1200 + 1020 = 3520 medals.
180 + 180 + 60 = 420 refreshes
To reduce the cost, I recommend you to not train Sophia in Cavalry, get Sulkowski if you want a cavalry general until you get Lan. That would save you 350 medals + a cavalry trainer for Lan. And also a whooping 120 refreshes.
Fathima
Type of princess : Economic/Fortress
Requirements to unlock : 250 Years in Europe
Not bad according to me, Fathima is a purely economic princess. Though she has 4 stars on forts, itβs useless to put her there. Though she doesnβt have any fighting ability, she is excellent in business. Economic master vastly increases the output in the cities where she is deployed. It is crucial for small countries and also campaigns, where you donβt have the economy of the entire country. Put her in a level VII or even level VI, for that matter and see her true capability.
Though Kosciuszko is the same, given a Napoleonic code and also brings more skills and better stars on many fields, he comes for medals. However, she is also not good enough to retain her as the 4th or even 5th princess for that matter. She has to leave once you rope in the others.
So what should I train her in? Nothing. Don't waste your medals on her.
Maria
Type of princess : Infantry general
Requirement to unlock : 450 years in Europe
3 stars in infantry and 2 in cavalry, which are weak, especially considering the fact that all her skills are trash. Nobleman? Very less bonus formation, increases the damage by 2-3. Mobility does not work. She has good movement and business skills. But she even can't be your business general because we have Arnold from the start (That would cost medals though) She will, however, struggle early into the game and don't bother upgrading or regrouping her. Get rid of her as soon as possible.
Kate
Type of princess : Naval/Artillery
Requirement to unlock : 350 years ruled in AMERICA
Kate is the American princess, who unlocks on 350 years ruled in America. She is, in my opinion, the second best Naval general, after Nelson of course. Steersman, Navigation and Fireproof are great skills for ships. She isnβt really of much use on land because of her 2 stars on artillery, with no skills to support, except Fireproof, which is bad for land units. But! She can survive for long, courtesy her training stars. Not usually worth keeping. But you can use her as your free naval general if you have more slots and she is great for the starting campaigns.
Don't train her in anything.
Isabella
Type of princess : Artillery
Requirements to unlock : 700 years ruled in Europe.
Isabella is another great artillery general you get after Sophia. She is much better than Sophia though. She requires very little training and all the skills supplement her too. Accurate increases her output consistently. Engineering gives her +2 movement, which is great for any artillery general as it helps them to move faster. Geography negates terrain mobility and the Geography-Engineering duo works wonders.
She even has great survivability as she has 4 training stars. Overall, she is the βLannes of Artilleryβ and definitely worth keeping in the last 4. Probably none can rival her. Right, now let get down to the costs.
Training her in Artillery and movement is enough.
Artillery : As mentioned, Kutaisov is 430 medals. So you would need 430 x 2 = 860 medals or at least 465 x 2 = 930 medals for Gazan. With 60 refreshes
Movement : You would also need 3 movement stars. So... 510 x 3 = 1530 medals and 180 refreshes.
Total costs : 860 + 1530 = 2390 medals and 240 refreshes
Sakurako
Type of Princess : Hybrid
Requirements to unlock : 350 Years Ruled in Asia
Sakurako is not bad, but on the other hand, not good either. She is possibly the best hybrid. She has Accurate for artillery, Strike for Cavalry, Bugle for infantry, which are great. Banner is expensive though. Moreover, she has good survivability with 4 training stars. You can easily train her to one or more fields as she already has 2 stars everywhere or you can bring her into the team untrained, with a trained Sophia. However, the problem with Sakurako, as with all the other hybrids, is that she doesnβt have much output. Her damage might be consistent, but less. Moreover, she has tough competition from Sophia, who usually takes the 4th place.
So, in conclusion, Iβd say that though she is great, she is not as good to be in your final team, because of two reasons - first, she unlocks late, because of which Sophia will be the one for whom all the investment goes. Second, her output isnβt high.
Do not train her in anything.
Lan
Type of Princess : Cavalry/Business
Requirements to unlock : 550 years ruled in Asia
Lan is probably the best general in the whole game. She might look raw initially, but give her some training and she would be a beast! 2 stars in cavalry should suffice and you can go for the business star later. Looking at her skills, Strike and Surprise are a must for a cavalry general. Leadership prevents morale from dropping and that helps her even among the hordes spammed during conquests or dealing with food problems/in game events in campaigns. As usual, Assault Art is the supplement.
She has 5 training stars, right of the block which are the icing. It helps her to stay alive longer. Also, once you are done with your combat, you can also trade with her sweet 4 star business. She is a formidable opponent to beat.
Training Cost -
Good news! Remember Sulkowski? The guy whom I mentioned previously? If you've been following my guide, you will have Sulkowski now so regroup him. And get another cavalry trainer, which is just 375 medals. And 30 refreshes.
Movement -
2 Diez costs 1020 medals and 60 refreshes. Instead of that, I recommend buying Warhorse, which does the same function of +2 movement.
Victoria
Type of Princess : Infantry/Naval hybrid
Requirements to unlock : 850 Years Ruled in Europe
Victoria, according to me, deserves to be in the last 4. She has great infantry capability. She will be able to strike hard at anywhere and anytime as she has the dangerous combo of Mass Fire and Bugle. And if still, she is in danger, her training stars will help her during critical situations, which are 5 from the start. 4 star movement mean she can move very quickly. Don't forget that she still has both Assault Art and Defense Art, probably the only general to have so.
All this, without considering her Naval abilities. She does have a history of the Royal Navy (Of course, since she is from Britain - The mistress of the seas). She has 4 stars in Navy and her training stars, movement, both the arts to supplement her, especially in the last campaign, where there are quite a few naval missions.
Note that she will be your last Princess so you can't train her in anything.
