Hello all. I have been at this for a while but silent on the boards so does that make me old guy/new guy?
I love the game and spend a lot of time here.
I currently on chapter 8 (chap 7 was easy).

My general line up looks like this:
INF Straubenberg, P/M; Lee, P/G; Grant D/LG; Nicholas 1, D/G (just got him, any good), MacArthur M/LG
CALV Molke D/LG; Jackson, D/LG; McCellan D/LG. Does Johnston come free somewhere or just buy him (620).
ARTY Hindenburg D/M; Besler, D/G; Ivanov P/G (favorite arty); Meade M/LG
NAVY Hood D/MG; Cobanli, M/LG; Acton, M/LG; Farragut M/LG
I have more of each type but listed those used most.
I also have 7 princess's.
I have 400K gold and 550 medals.

What generals should I get for latter game success?
Add generals, keep improving gens or both?

What do I need for navy, I struggle here?

Are there any threads for history recommendations? Its not easy.

You already have the top 3 art gens so you should get more top cav generals such as Plumer, Stepanovic, Johnston or Joffre. I bought Johnston for challenge conquests only. The other 3 gens are needed in history mode (Plumer on Navy though).

Campaigns are easy. Some challenge campaigns (zero/one gen) are difficult.

You need to upgrade your top gens to at least prince so that level 5 skills are unlocked.

Get Hipper and Beatty as your top navy gens.

I dismissed Nicholas 1 without ever using him. However, he may be useful in zero/one gen challenge campaigns. I read about a trick in those challenge campaigns. You can deploy gens in the campaigns. As long as you dismiss them before end of game, they are not counted. I haven't attempted this trick myself.

Austro-Prussian war and Cuban War are the easiest among all history campaigns and you already have the minimum generals required for them. There are guides for history campaigns in (Updated) EW6:1914 Library . I have posted an alternative AP war guide.

Some tips for Cuban War:

- use all knowledge to formulate air bombing and use the bombs on any navy on upper far right port (initially with gen Montojo).

- destroy large fort close to upper left enemy city (it hinders movement of art units) and fort on upper right enemy city (enable complete encircling of the city).

- do not attack enemy cav gen or inf gen (unless they can not counter-attack). Killing them are not part of the conditions. You can flank or encircle them.

Well, I would say Hipper, Beatty, Plumer, and Johnston are all I can think of.

Upgraded Straubenberg, Lee and Ivanov to prince. Purchased Johnston. Flew thru chapter 3 challenge which was giving me trouble. Future generals will probably be Plumer, Beatty and Hipper. Thanks
