Was Paul Morphy ever a world champion? Anyhow I think he should be on the list.

Was Paul Morphy ever a world champion? Anyhow I think he should be on the list. Alas, his career was too short. He was known as the unofficial champion of the time, though. There was not a "World Champion" Title yet, and Frankly, I don't want to remake the poll.

I totally forgot to vote, but now that you said it I voted for Karpov, because I don't know who else. But why does everyone think I'm a Russian Soviet nostalgic nationalist?

I don't, but I attributed Capablanca to Thortilla, because, ya know, Latin America, I did Lasker, John Marston did Kasparov, and there was one vote for Karpov left. Since you had posted in the thread, I figured you had voted, so bada bing, bada boom.

Also was it just a meme but wasn't Fischer a bit of a nazi? He was virulently anticommunist, but that's really it.

I mean, he's a machine. Even in his last tournament, he was winning in the first half, but in the second half, he started losing due to his health deteriorating. He beat Lasker, who was a great chess player btw, and pretty much beat everyone from his era. His playstyle was quite modern if not too simplistic, and he played similar to Magnus and Karpov. And he was chess player from a century ago. Fischer said he was a genius who just played chess, but i'll give that distinction to Capablanca. He never studied too much chess, and yet he was the best of his era. His brain was made for chess pretty much. He was also good looking.
