Dawn may 10th On dawn of may10th the largest greatest concentration of tanks yet seen in war was massed opposite the frontier made up of 3 panzer Corps this van was led by General Guderian
May 13 1940 Guderians panzer Corps crossed the Meuse at sedan and reached the channel cost within a week therefore cutting off the allied armies at Belgium this lead to the fall of France and the isolation of Britain After this a different reality came the heads of the German army had little faith in the prospects in the offensive Hitler himself lost confidence in a crucial moment and imposed a two days halt on the advance but who lead the attack was Guderian was momentary removal from command as a result of his superiors anxiety to put a brake in his pace from exploiting the breakthrough he had why you asked because there was a cap that the French are able to attack and cause the Germans to fail due to his fast invasion. Guderians attack was concentrated on a one and mile half stretch of the river just west of sedan this was a perfect setting for as passage the river had bends sharply north this bends were towards St Menges and south again, surrounding heights on the north bank are wooded providing cover for attack preparations and gun positions as well such as artillery observation The assault was launched at 4pm led by panzer infantry in rubber boats on rafts soon ferries were soon in operation the attackers pressed on to capture the Bois DC marfee and southern heights by midnight the wedge was driven nearly 5 milles deep while a bridge was completed at glarie which was between sedan and st mengens over which the panzers began to pour. Even so the German foothold was still precarious on the 14th with only one division yet across the river and only one bridge by which reinforcements and supplies could reach it this bridge was heavily attack by aillied air attacks
