Guderian is by NO means better than Manstein. And there are several reasons for this.
1. Damage- Manstein's five stars give him potential for Ludicrous damage, especially when near other generals. In Battle of Britain I remember consistently hitting 130 and even 150 with him. In comparison Guderian tends to max out at around 110, unless he is in Manstein's aura.
2. Aura- Manstein's aura ability, Panzer Group, is the most absolutely broken skill in this game. It has the ability to turn Guderian and Rommel into gods, Rundstedt into a tank general and Hoth and Bock into viable endgame damage machines. His aura will allow you to easily smash defences like they are made of clay. Guderian is good but it is only within this aura that he has the potential to be truly incredible.
3. Durability- Manstein has a combination of incredible speed and consistent multi hit potential, giving him survivability rivaled by few. Guderian has good durability as well but sufferes the weakness of being primarily a medium tank general. Yes Manstein has blitzkrieg as well and therefore can be considered an MT gen, he is primarily better on heavies to this his higher damage rate. Not to mention when Maused he is nearly unstoppable.
In conclusion, Guderian is a good general, no doubt about it but Manstein's aura ability combined with his ridiculous damage make him a god.
