I recently started GoG3 on another device than on my phone, and I had cleared 1939.
I wanted to finish AG 1941 Eastern Front, and I was going to do it.
I picked AG South. Rundstedt, Manstein, and Kleist are all decent generals, and I wanted to get Yugoslavia out of the way early.
Yugoslavia fell like a house of cards with just my Tito and South's Kleist. Now time for Soviet 4th.
Soviet 4th was a bit more difficult. I built a heavy plant in Chisinau, and used it as a creation and staging area for my generals. First one out of there was Chuikov. He dealt with a Malinovsky 6-piece outside of Iasi. Meanwhile, Manstein and Rundstedt pushed into Ukraine. I was able to replay Gerd von Rundstedt 's fantasy of taking Sevastopol with just Rundstedt. I met Voronov at Donetsk and wiped him off the map.
Another problem had arisen, however
in the north, Germany AG North had more land than I expected of them at this point, but they had no troops to defend that. If Zhukov went farther than Vitebsk, I would have had to liberate Berlin. Thankfully Soviet 2nd didn't, and I was able to put enough money together to send a sizable donation to the North. I sent one whenever I felt I didn't need the excess money, and boy did it pay off. They had Leningrad by the time I had Moscow.
I sent one single stack infantry unit from Sevastopol. His target: Land grabs in the extreme South. Meanwhile, Leeb, Timoshenko, and Bock had also joined the fight and were raising hell against Vatutin who had spawned for Soviet 3rd. While AG Center was able to cripple Soviet 3rd, it left them crippled as well, and center became a shadow of its former self.
Then. Something beautiful came: Kleist and Tito had broken into Tula, and I fought and force marched them into Moscow in the next round. I had Moscow. Meanwhile, Leeb had been taking down Soviet 2nd at the original frontline. While AG North was doing well against Soviet 1st, the frontline at Vitebsk had stagnated after the threat of Zhukov went away. Around the same time we captured Moscow, we stumbled into what I fondly recall as the Krasnodar campaign. There was 6 stack of infantry in Krasnodar, while Rundstedt was still in Rostov-Na-Donu. They attacked Rundstedt and they were annihilated. Then the cheeky little one stack infantry I had sent down there took Krasnodar for themselves. Meanwhile, Manstein had captured Stalingrad himself. There was just one thing: Soviet 4th was putting all their money into making infantry at Ellista. We could not let this happen. They attacked Stalingrad, and Manstein reacted pitifully. However, Manstein made up for it and simultaneously had his finest hour in the return offensive on Ellista. He took out 4/6 3 stack infantry he was facing in 1 round.
At this point, things were speeding up. Messe joined the game, took out the far east, as well as Vasilevsky. By the time we had Cherepovets, there were only two Soviet tiles left in Finland. Then, I made a tragic mistake. I tried to aid the Finnish. Instead, I pressed the declare war button. The following countries declared war on me:
Slovakia
Hungary
Bulgaria
Romania
immediately, the land grabs by these countries that were doing nothing but collecting money was incredible. Belgrade, Lviv, Chisinau, Odessa, Sevastopol, and Vienna were all part of the grabs.
So what do you do with 4 countries who had money collecting in the bank for the past 15 rounds, making massive land grabs where you are the weakest?
here's what I did. I spent all of my money building and replenishing defenses in Zagreb, Ljubljania, Linz, Graz, Podgorica, and Nis.
I sent Messe and Model, the two generals closest to the scene of tragedy south as fast as they possibly could. My plan was to hold out long enough to spam enough transfer orders and get enough of my generals down south. Then I would go on the offensive and take what they took from me. While I was waiting for the magic to happen, Nis and Skopje fell.
Then comes AG Centre....
AG Centre, I cannot stress enough about how AG Centre helped me in this. They liberated Krakow, and helped me in the capture of Bratislava. I won, the last two falling countries were Bulgaria and Romania.
