Welcome commander, to the Kharkiv Offensive.
Despite the small map, you'll find yourself fighting for almost every square.
It's not a hard mission, but you'll be facing one key enemy, and one only. The man himself. Manstein.
Your reinforcements will be lacking, and you will not be able to recruit easily. Every turn in this mission will feel like an eternity passing.
In many aspects, your role in this mission will be as a support division, there to provide backline cover, and finally, to clean up the mess when all else has failed.
Let us move right into the field brief!
Mission Objectives: Occupy 5 key areas
Sub Mission 1: Occupy Belgorod in 5 turns
Sub Mission 2: Protect Vatutin for 10 turns
Sub Mission 3: Occupy Bohodukhiv in 12 turns
Generals Used: Timoshenko (Tank), Leclerc (Tank), Chuikov (Heavy Artillery), Cunningham (Infantry)
Detailed Breakdown
Phase 1: Holding the line
I placed Cunningham on an infantry so that I could get 4 stacks on it. Timoshenko goes on the tank, Chuikov on the heavy artillery, and Leclerc reserved for turn 5 with my secondary forces.
To start off, give turn chuikov and the heavy artillery into a katyusha. We will open this battle with the screeching of rockets!
To be more precise, our objective is to take Belgorod while protecting Konev. We need his Katyushas in the long run to sing the song of rockets.
Send your armoured forces east of the river to take Belgorod, while the fast moving infantry with the armoured car flanks around from the west to take out the infantry on fortifications.
At the same time, your allied Vasilevsky triggers Manstein's counterattack.
Mainstein turns out in full force, commanding a horde of infantry and cars to appear along with him.
Don't panic. We have the power ofgod and anime rockets and snow on our side. But without the snow.
We have more pressing issues to worry about, like an impending counterattack from the southwest.
Continue protecting Konev and utilising your Katyusha, while the forces east of the mountain cautiously attacks the incoming forces.
When I mean cautious, I mean that no troop ventures alone into the enemy territory. We require a slow moving wall to prevent flanks.
In fact, it's fine to not advance, as long as you can maintain a defensive line to protect the Katyushas
You get some allied reinforcements on turn 3-4, so that's a welcome addition as shields.
Phase 2: The Western Front
Meanwhile, on turn 5, the western front opens up. Place Leclerc on your reinforcements, and attack the enemy freely.
Use the armoured car to scout before Leclerc gives the tank a good hit.
Don't worry, the enemy forces will head down shortly to attempt to flank Vatutin. That'll leave the city practically undefended. Wipe out the infantry defenders before giving chase.
Yes! We'll be flanking the flankers! We're outsmarting their outsmarting!
Meanwhile, back on the eastern front, literally everyone will die. You won't be able to move them back to replenish due to the mountains and jungles, so it's only natural that they wipe each other out.
I would advise you to purchase an armoured car as reinforcement around this time, while your last forces hold the defensive line protecting the Katyushas.
Let the scream of rockets from the katyushas fill the air, it's the only thing that they can do!
There on the western front, we begin to outsmart their outsmarting!
On the eastern front, everyone is dead or dying.
My reinforcements of 1 armoured car and 1 heavy tank with a straggler infantry will be all that's left
After Manstein gets destroyed, that triggers a morale drop on all his forces. Which... should be dead by this point of time.
Phase 3: Endgame
Now, with manstein dead, we have finally reached, the endgame.
At what cost? Everything.
Roll your forces from the west to take Bohodukhiv while Konev advances to Kharkiv.
You can consider parachuting your infantry in, now that the lands are clear.
After taking Bohodukhiv, all allied troops on the field gets a morale boost, just in time for you to take Kharkiv.
With Konev's rockets, your reinforcements and your secondary force, you'll be able to bulldoze the final objective of Kharkiv.
Congrats! You've reached the end of the brief! It's now time for you to go out there and experience it all!
Final notes: My tech level is 0, special forces are zero, with all free generals. If I can do it, so can you!
1. Do remember to use special froces, especially on your secondary force. Towards the end, I was racking up close to 3 digits of unused cash.
2. If possible, try not to lose Chuikov. Purchase reinforements earlier, or keep your troops closer to him. Chuikov is the only one who can stand up to Manstein, and the enemy AI knows this.
3. As you've noticed, Vatutin is very capable of standing his ground. Don't worry too much about him, and go over to attack Bohodukhiv ASAP.
4. Lastly: Good luck. You will lose many troops.
If you have any other questions or discussions, feel free to post them here!

Battle Flow Brief
Terrain and Situational Brief
1. Small Map with airfields
[Air force stretches across most of the map, consider use of paratroopers and air force]
2. Mountains, Jungles and river surrounding Belgorod
[Hard to move out to attack enemy forces, make sure that troops are stacked before moving out, they will not be going back]
3. Large extent of plains on the left side of the map
[Fast movement of your secondary force to attack the rear of the enemy]
4. Large amounts of enemy infantry
[Consider giving special forces to armoured cars and anti-infantry forces]
Overall Strategy: Limited Engagement until reinforcements arrive
