I think i played enough easytech games to make a ranking in terms of difficulty. I will exclude the games i haven't played, and i'll just let stoic comment on their difficulty in the comments(basically wc3-4, gog3). I'm gonna place them from easiest to hardest. Criteria for difficulty is considering all game modes, from early to end game.
5. European war 4
The easiest easytech game i played. It's also my favorite(until a certain one dethroned it). Finished it with a f2p account and an account where i bought everything, and it was really great. Conquests aren't too difficult, and I don't remember a campaign that made me sigh in frustration. You don't need any of the I.A.P generals,as all you need to do is farm the princesses (lan, sophia, isabella) and you'll do great.I do recommend playing 饾槢饾槼饾槹饾樀饾槾饾槵饾樅 's mod tho, and to not spend any money on it. Reason is that it lacks cloud storage, and you don't want to commit resources on something that isn't permanent. This is probably the reason why easytech pretty much abandoned the game,as it cannot turn in the profit. But the lack of profit is due to user hesitance in spending due to the lack of cloud storage. It has a dedicated playerbase tho,so don't be afraid to start.
4. European war 6: 1806
I was thinking on who should be in the 4rth spot betwern Great conqueror rome and EW6 1806, and i decided to place 1806 here. And i'll explain why. To any of you who played 1806, you might protest that 1806 is definitely harder because of the crimean war. And the crimean war is definitely difficult. But, it has become much more manageable with the appearance of emergency heals, and the difficulty mitigated by the fact that you can infinitely grind conquests for medals to try again. The conquests, especially 1815,would be difficult for beginners. Aside from that, the game isn't too difficult overall. Compared to the following ones at least. The game that gave me my title of "World's fastest conqueror" although only one of my record stands today. Nostalgic, although I can't get into it recently.
3. Great Conqueror Rome
The game i made the most guides on. The difficulty curve of this game is shaped like a U. It's difficult early on, then it gets easier and easier as you get more generals, then the difficuly spikes once again during the end game. Hero legends is definitely difficult, i'd say the latest ones are more difficult than crimean war due to restrictions. The conquests aren't too difficult, but the fog of war can make the experience a frustrating one. Campaigns are alright, starts medium, ramps up to difficult, drops to easy once you get your team. Decisive battles are overall easy until you start the Sicilian decisive battles, then it gets tough. Overall, fun game. I have mixed feelings on the game, although the experience is overall positive.
2. European war 6: 1914
Gotta say, this game is hard. Challenge conquests, some missions in the challenge campaigns(looking at you campaign challenge 7 and 8), and history mode. Nothing from the previous games i mentioned can top the difficulty of using a 1 star nation in a challenge conquest. The saving grace of this game is that medals are plentiful,as gold is the main currency used for upgrading generals and buying items. Although this is also the reason as to why the game's end game is difficult. One challenge campaigns can only be done by exploiting some game mechanic to finish it(unless you want to use the save load function and spend a lot of medpacks). In terms of conquests,it definitely is the most difficult as the possibility of losing is real in challenge conquests. History mode is also a pain. Overall, hardcore game(although most of the difficulty is in the mid to end game). All game modes are consistently hard and will give you a challenge. And i can't stress that enough. But you're probably wondering :" if this game is so difficult, then why isn't it number 1?" Well, the reason i'm emphasizing how difficult the game is, is to show the game difficulty of number 1.
1. European War 5
My current favorite Easytech game(EW7 might change that, but i doubt it). Before explaining why,i would like to say: "Why aren't more people playing this game?" In terms of fun, this is definitely the most fun i've ever had in an E.T game. The only game that comes close is EW4. That said,i understand why someone would get disappointed by the art style. Here's my counterpoint to that:
Even if you aren't convinced by my counterarguments, then I'll say this: EW5 is the very definition of :" don't judge a book by it's cover." In terms of overall game difficulty, it's up there. I haven't completed the game yet,but that's because of how there's a lot of things to finish in the game. Usually,i finish an easytech game in a week or 2, but i'm 13 days in and i'm still not in the end game. And even with my faster than usual progress,i'm still far behind. The campaigns are easy at the start, then you start the next age. Then the difficulty rises. Next age, same. Then you reach discovery age and you discover that the difficulty spikes through the roof(pun intended). Then the difficulty stays that way. Decisive battles are also hard. Empire mode is just a pain, some missions there are definitely "how tf am i supposed to beat this" tier, and unlike 1914,there ain't no game mechanic that will save you son. The only thing that can be considered not difficult is conquest, but my counterpoint is that it's really difficult to stay awake when playing them,so checkmate. Also, ragnarok is quite difficult, not 1914 challenge conquest difficult, but more 1914 Canada 1865 challenge conquest difficult. The thing that makes EW5 more difficult than 1914 is how finely tuned the game is. What i mean is that there will always be difficult missions even as you progress. In 1914,it's enough to just stockpile instant heals and upgrade all your generals to max to make the difficulty bearable. For EW5, nah son. You upgrade to the next age, some bs mission is there to greet you. Unlike the other games mentioned,i haven't finished this game yet. But i consumed enough of the game to understand how difficult it is(after reading the several empire missions that has been discussed). You can say i made this thread just to talk about how great EW5 is and how more people should play it. And you are definitely right.
