The top left thing on a general's picture which can be gotten in exchange for resources:)
King Arthur doesn't seem to be friendly, so no friendliness bonuses for him.
Each purple and gold general will gain 5 individual perks. Being less individualistic, all the grey generals get the same bonuses.
The same is true for the blue ones but their shared bonuses are better.
Awakened generals count as blue generals in this regard. (Bonuses as well as costs)
The bonuses can be inspected as soon as the general is added to the roster but you'll need to reach a certain level (10, 20, 30, 40, 50) for the perk to become available for purchase.

So here is what we found:
The bonuses for awakened Leonidas and awakened Pachacuti are not confirmed yet but based on analogy.
If you like to know in which order they unlock then look at the accepted answer below.
Note: Some purple generals want you to give them 30 literature instead of 30 relics as their preferred gift for the last perk. And there are also three different branches for gold tier.
If you can't afford to spend relics/literature then it is wise to give them a +5/+6 donation during lower levels so you can save 30 diamonds once. [16*6=96; 96+5-->100]
Apart from that just give them their primary resource because you get 50 of each every day from princesses.
And here is one more interesting question: How will awakening a grey general influence this?
---> tested this with Beowulf and his bonuses are being awakened along with his abilities and stats.
For example, hit+80 just becomes hit+100; def+20 --> HP+60, etc. So, if he's awakened at lv20-30 he temporarily loses the def+20 (but this is compensated by his overall increase in stats) and will gain def+30 later.
However, the resource costs are now also the blue ones, so you could gain a slight advantage by maxing their friendliness when they are still grey generals.
This would of course also mean spending the medals (100+150+250+450=950) to upgrade grey generals to gunpowder/Level 50 so they can get their 5 bonuses just to save a few resources. So, unless you actively use a grey general in your team, you'll probably awaken them at a stage in the game where you can afford to set aside these medals and then you will have lots of china, ivory, diamonds and artwork anyway.
