do you think every historical person who got the epithet the great deserved it? or would you deny some being great.... were they really all great? how would you define someone being great? who from actual living persons could be called great later?

Since we have only a handful of characters with this epithet, I think that all of them are remarkable persons. As far as I remember there were only four of them in Antiquity - the above mentioned by Deleted King of kings, Alex (the man was a Prodigy from his birth ), Pompey (actually Sulla called Pompey "Magnus" "Great" sarcastically with a pinch of salt, but the man was really talented, though Caesar was really great), аnd Constantine (a great statesman, no doubt). In medieval times we had Charlemagne and Alfred. In modern times Peter, Catherine and Frederick. All of them are famous state builders. Though one person in modern times deserved this title more than them though he made plenty of mistakes and ruined his country in a historic perspective, while they strengthened. Yet, "one and only" Napoleon has been called Great only in Literature. Perhaps I have forgotten about someone, but, as I said, all of them are really interesting characters.

If I were Napoleon I would call my autobiography "My journey from rags to riches and back" It is still one of the most fascinating stories in human history.

He got lucky that the french revolution happened. If not, he might just be some great general, or maybe not, probably became a drunk,we never know what would've happened. That said, yeah, his rise to power was great.

That said, yeah, his rise to power was great. That is another sign of a genius. There was a bunch of talented guys at the start of these revolutionary changes. Many future marshals of Napoleon climbed the career ladder even faster than Napoleon himself. Yet he was a man in the right place at the right time. And no-one questioned this outcome in earnest, though many were disappointed. In turbulent times there are always many opportunists and opportunities, but there is a huge difference between those who take their chances and then seek to enjoy life and those who are destined to greatness.

One of the criteria being great is to win a war Napoleon lost like Hitler did Napoleon won plenty of wars. He just lost the last ones. Yep I know. He won many battles like Hitler winning for a large Germania. But in the end both failed. So not great

Once again let me say that Alexander the "Great" also lost ultimately. Just that he didn't live to see it
