I was looking through nhyjj's "The Only Good General Path (I’m not lying, it’s the best)" when I noticed this sentence referring to Rundstedt: "He is neck to neck with Yamashita for the spot of the best infantry General."
HERESY! We all know that it'sUshijima Rundstedt supremacy or nothing!
So naturally, I ripped it off to make a thread that isn't the best general path.
Obviously credits to Nhyjj for the original post. Head over to the link in the first 6-16 words of the post for real advice from him.
Take this advice with like, 5 grains of salt. Again, head over to the link above for good advice. His thread is the one you want to follow word for word.
How to get MEDALS
The General Path
Here is the part you all waited for. All alternatives were added by me with minor changes to descriptions. I also changed some generals (ex. Yamashita for Rundstedt) and swapped 2 general's orders.
Axis
Leeb
795 medals
The 2nd best FTP Artillery General (behind only Govorov, and the best Axis arty general. Has a great amount of damage due to Accuracy and Fire Focus and can even attack again because of Silver Artillery Leader. Him and Guderian will cut through enemy lines like a hot knife through butter and will make the hardest Eastern Front 1941 missions look like a nice trip to Moscow.
Should be bought near the end of 1939 Western Front or near the beginning of 1941 Eastern Front.
Alternative:
Note: I actually believe that you should get Leeb before Guderian as the Greek part is quite a bit harder without a general. And Leeb is much cheaper.
Guderian
1020 medals
The best medium tanker you can have. He deals insane amounts of damage due to Tide of Iron, is a beast of a tank killer due to Anti-Armour and can charge the mightiest of the enemy Generals without suffering much damage because of Blitzkrieg. He may cost a lot, but it is worth it. And the best… he’s fast AF!
You should buy him near the end of 1939 Western Front, around the middle of the Greek part.
Alternative:
Rundstedt
915 medals
The 2nd best (non-IAP) infantry General in the game, and the best Axis infantry general. Has good survivability thanks to FS and Plunder, high damage (highest for Axis infantry). what better to ask for? Only con is that he's slow, so if you are concerned, upgrade an SF's mobility such as the Taurus Corps. Smack a good SF on him and watch him Plunder away!
Should be bought in pacific front 1942 or at last in African front 1941
Alternatives:
Donitz
875 medals
The best admiral in the game. Strong and bulky. He as aura thanks to Wolfpack, survivability thanks to warning, damage thanks to torpedo expert AND movement… WHAT! Why wouldn’t you buy him over Nagumo?
Some say Donitz is optional, but you got to be a GOD at the game to beat the New Guinea campaigns with only Ozawa.
Should be bought near the middle of pacific front 1942, or near the beginning of pacific front 1945, or just not bought if you are a god at the game…
Alternatives
Rommel
995 medals
The best Heavy Tanker in the game. Also is the best tanker in the game. Fight me. He got damage thanks to ToI and the best HT skill (PL). Only downside, desert fighting which is only useful in 1941 African front…
AND THAT IS WERE YOU SHOULD BUY HIM!
(Nothing else to say about him… he’s just great)
Alternatives:
Yamamoto (optional)
815 medals (?)
Yamamoto is the best air general. He just is. Slaps everything with airstrikes. Has CB, DB,, and aura. Last 2 are great carrier skills, with the first one being usable on ports (IIRC).
Should be bought near 1944 western front
Alternatives:
An Axis Infantry General (optional)
615/440/810 medals
Option 1: Kuribayashi (615 medals) - The best out of these 3 by far, the 2nd strongest Axis infantry general. Crits extremely hard and has Samurai to boot. Sadly slow, but but this time you should have some fast engineers.
Option 2: Student (440 medals) - The 3rd strongest Axis infantry general, but reliant on paratrooping. Depends on if you have a good paratrooper SF and how many.
Option 3: Yamashita (810 medals) - The purchase I regret the most (Kuri go brr). 4th strongest Axis infantry general and the fastest out of the Top 4 Axis. Only one out of these 3 options who has actual survivability, also has nice output.
If you were to buy one of these 3, it would be near the end of Pacific War 1945
Allies
Rokossovsky
815 medals
Monty, who? Roko is the best Allied HT!
In nhyjj's words: "He’s the best allies HT General. Ability to attack again thanks to PL (nice), good damage against tanks if needed thanks to anti-armor (nice) and MOVEMENT (NOICE). This guy is the best choice. Only downside, he has only 3* on tanks.
"
He would be bought near the beginning of Eastern front 1941 or near the beginning of African Front 1941.
Alternatives:
MacArthur
925 medals
The best infantry general in the game. Eisenhower who?
This guy is the best. IL to slap, Raider to clap, and FS to say near max the whole time.
Should be bought near the middle of Pacific front 1942 or near the beginning of African front 1941.
Alternatives:
Vatutin
720 medals
Hits hard, like little Guderian, but not as survivable. A slow monster, will remind you of Guderian, but won't last as long.
Alternative:
Govorov
775 medals
Better than Leeb gaining the spot of the best artillery general in the game. AL (124% damage, nice!), Accuracy (basically 12% more damage), Plain fighting (+10). MOVEMENT! 2*s OF IT!
He should be bought on the Italian part of Western Front 1944. Why not earlier? nhyjj quoted eeeeef on this one:
“its because Chuikov and alexander exist and they do Govorov's job pretty well”
Alex is worse than Clark, however. Chuikov is the main delay. CHUIKOV GANG!11!!1!!!
Alternative:
Nimitz (optional)
755 medals
The third/fourth best navy guy in the game, worse than Nagumo and Mountbatten with Donitz and worse than both without. He’s got Aura and Damage, two skills that’ll make the Pacific Front 1945 worst landing missions look like a nice trip on the beach. He makes your life so much easier, but you don’t need to be a god to beat the last missions without him.
Should be bought in pacific front 1945
Alternatives:
With that over, once again, head over to Nhyjj 's thread for the best general path advice.

How to get MEDALS
Finding out how to get medals is an important step to our journey because without medals, we can’t get Generals (unless you count paying or get the free ones).
There are 7 ways to get medals.
No1: win campaigns missions
This is quite an obvious method and certainly the easiest one. Just play the campaigns! Perfection gives more medals than imperfection.
No2: play Army Groups (Vasilevsky is good here)
It is fairly easy to win those in late game and not that hard in the beginning. Vasilevsky is a god here, btw.
Here is a list of the easiest ones
No3: Playing with the assigned Generals for a campaign
There are Generals there are assigned in a campaign. They won’t take any extra slots.
If you play with those, there is a certain chance that they will give you a medal when attacking. There are ways to grind those medals more effectively, but this is the most repeatable.
No4: Play the elite battles
This is also an effective way to get medals, but I do not recommend it until late game (around western front 1944) as these missions are hard.
No5: Grinding Achievements
Grinding achievements can help fill the gap between the numbers of medal you have and the number you need, but it should not be used as your main source of medals, as there are only a limited number we can get, and some achievements require you to use medals to get medals.
No6: Ads and daily rewards
A quite easy way to get medals. If you watch the 4 ads every day and get the daily rewards every day, you could get around 200 medals a week for only a cost of 4 min of your life each day.
A note: If you are a Windows player and don't have rewards (like me), you still get a nice 105 medals weekly.
No7: Pay
The easiest way to get medals, but not the most honourable one…
ftp for life!!! (You can quote me on this)
In conclusion, there are many ways to get medals, some easier than others, and there should no excuse such has: “I can’t get enough medals”

Alternative:
Cheap Alternative: Badoglio - Save 155 medals
You get Economics, a skill I don't value on arty because they have high attack, so use that to actually attack! This leads to the Badoglio Dilemma, a term I have coined to describe any GOG3 general split between defending (Economics) and attacking (FF and Accuracy). Maybe if you are lucky you can go in a city for a turn or so as part of your march and get 6 coins, but that's based on luck. Crits not as often as Leeb and is a bit weaker.

You get Street Fighting (unless you are Gerdy this skill is near useless), Rumor (I don't think it's good, the unit you demoralize is going to die soon and 5 morale for the 1 radius ain't much), and Blitzkrieg (Silver). Silver Blitzkrieg is probably the best thing this guy has. Not worth it.

Cheap and great. Crits hard (and often) and is the 2nd strongest infantry general. Smack a Taurus Corp (or Pioneer) to solve his mobility problem (and so in survivability problem is gone).
Cheaper alternative: Student - Save 475 medals
Cheaper and less great than Kuri. Smack a paratrooper on him and watch him slice the enemy. Mobile. Only flaw is that he needs to paradrop to be good. 3rd Strongest Axis infantry general.
Less cheaper alternative: Yamashita - Save 105 medals
4th strongest infantry general, but already fast and still hits hard with BC and 4*s. Also, less tanky than Rundstedt but still tanky. Originally, nhyjj replaced Rundstedt with him, but Rundstedt is a better long term investment.

Cheap alternative: Nagumo - Save 170 medals (?)
2nd best Axis admiral and 2nd best admiral in general. Probably shouldn't get him like I did over Donitz but it's not a horbble mistake if you did.
Cheaper alternative: Raedar - Save 570 medals
Absolute trash sometimes, but he is a tank that dishes out reliable damage. Please, just save the extra 570 medals. Or 400 medals if you are desperate (fight the desperation if you are considering Nagumo).

Cheaper alternative: Heinrici - Save 605 medals
DON'T DO IT! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! WALK AWAY FROM THE YELLOW PURCHASE BUTTON THAT SAYS "390". Ok, all of his skills activated makes him weaker than Hoth. And Hoth is absolute garbage.

Some say that he's better than Yamamoto because of his infantry capabilities, but I say not. Use demoralizing airstrikes to activate VR and fly in for the kill. A Yamamoto-Student hybrid. Originally replaced Yamamoto.
Cheap alternative: Greim - Save 520 medals
Same skills as Doolittle, but worse stats. A better Arnold. Just save the medals, please! Just use Yamamoto!

MONTY IS JUST WORSE. JUST GET ROKO! To be fair, Monty hits non-tanks harder but on average, Roko will hit harder. So in the end, Roko wins, YAY!
Cheaper alternative: Vatutin - Save 95 medals
He's diet Guderian and still hits hard without PL. Not as hard as even Monty, but still.

Alternatives:
Cheap alternative: Vasilevsky - Save 175 medals
Normal Vasilevsky is weaker than Brad. Max Vasil is stronger than Brad. But Max Vasil is a defender, a garrison troop. OOF. Tassigny and Brad are better.
Cheaper alternative: Bradley - Save 235 medals
Hits harder than Rundstedt on Jungles, but you usually try to play around the jungle because Irish Guard isn't always there to help. Still hits hard without JF. 2nd strongest alternative out at max potential. Stronger than all alternatives normally, though.
Even cheaper alternative: Tassigny - Save 335 medals
Hits less hard than normal Vasilevsky, but is much bulkier and the best defender in all the game. Flank and destroy.
Cheaper alternative: Slim - Save 300 medals
Why bother get him? He's worse than Tassigny in pretty much every way!

Weaker but more survivable. 4*s are the only stable output you have b/c PL fights against Blitz. Your choice on who you want.

Govorov
775 medals

Cheap alternative: Mountbatten - Save 160 medals
Better than Nimitz after campaign and is better than Nimitz with Nimitz! In short, Mountbatten+Nimitz = Mountbatten Rules the Waves! Without Nimitz, he's worse than Nimitz, though.
Cheaper alternative: Spruance - Save 555 medals
Basically 6 stars for 200 medals. Not as good as Mountbatten but with Nimitz, he will be destructive.
Cheapest alternative: King - Save 590 medals
I CAN FINALLY USE CHEAPEST BECAUSE HE IS ACTUALLY THE CHEAPEST POSSIBLE REASONABLE ALTERNATIVE! Small cheer over, he's worse than Spruance though, so see Spruance but think, "He's worse". Only 35 medals cheaper than Spruance, the decline in quality isn't worth losing Day 2's medal reward.
