In the past two months I didn't play, I just grinded medals to upgrade Barbarossa and awakened Pachacuti and to buy the Hammer of Odin, the Axe of Titan, the Shield of Titan and the Energy Ring. With these, I tried again the missions that I couldn't three-star and I succeeded! This one was the hardest, I failed many times even with the new generals and items, but I eventually won in 17 rounds. Here is how I did it.
MY GENERALS (with notable items specified):
- Alexander (skill levels: 2, 10, 6) with Gungnir, Classical badge, and 2 pieces of the paladin set
- Attila (10, 10, 10), with Golden Mask, Discovery badge, 2 pieces of the keel set and Ring of Titan
- Saladin (1, 10, 7), with Thunder, Armor of Odin, Gunpowder badge
- Nobunaga (1, 10, 10), with badge of legend, Shield of Titan, Mystletainn, Meteor boots
- Nelson (10, 7, 1), with badge of hope, Dusk amulet and 2 pieces of the Paladin set
- Li Hongzhang (10, 10, 10), with Imperial badge, Axe of Titan, Lunar shield
- Catherine (1, 10, 1) with Medieval badge, Hammer of Odin, Energy ring
- Barbarossa (1, 10, 1) with Aegis
- Moctezuma ( 7, 10, 7) with badge of challenges
- Bismarck (1, 10, 1) with Solar Sword
- Li Shimin (1, 1, 1)
- Pachacuti (awakened) (10, 10, 10)
All gens with max friendliness.
MY STRATEGY:
As a head start, I used Bismarck's Rumor to disable the cav general to the north (because he's got rumor, too). I did this first so that I just had to press restart if the outcome isn't the desired one. I also made sure that the tile with that general would catch fire (and the kind of fire with most flames for max damage).
Then I placed the other units as shown in the screenshot (well, it obviously depends on what movement items your gens have and the order of deployment). Nobunaga attacks the small grey wolf; Alexander, Attila and Li Shimin the infantry gen; Li H. attacks the small brown wolf (which is also a priority because he can debuff attack); Pachacuti, Catherine, Nelson and Saladin attack the disabled cav gen (yes, I placed Saladin on a mine, but with logistics he can recover relatively quickly). Barbarossa and Moctezuma stay with Petain.
At turn 2, Saladin kills the cav gen to recover some health, then Attila, Catherine, Saladin, Pachacuti, Bismarck, Li Shimin return south. I made Attila stay there a couple of turns to kill the first two archer generals that arrive, because they're the most annoying. Nobunaga moves to attack the brown wolf with Nelson and Li Hongzhang. I kept my generals out of the tower's range (5 hexes) until Attila and Saladin rejoined the northern group.
Afterwards there are no other changes in the 2 groups of generals: Alexander, Nobunaga, Attila, Saladin, Nelson, Li Hongzhang, Bismarck, Li Shimin go north and through the other objectives. Barbarossa, Moctezuma, Pachacuti, Catherine stay with Petain. I used Young-hee on the building where you find Petain at the start, Fatimah on the barracks nearby, Jenny on the stables directly north when captured, Oclio on the building near Loki when captured.
The main problem here is keeping the initial buildings. I focused fire on one general at a time, trying to make use of Pachacuti's mobility. I almost never moved Petain from his building. I didn't skip the enemy's turn so I could see which generals were the most dangerous and needed to be dealt with swiftly (a cav gen with rumor, in particular). I understood that it's better to prevent all those generals from getting close to the barracks. Petain can sustain a lot of damage, so even if he's surrounded it doesn't matter, it was just a matter of spamming some infantry to create a sort of wall to the north. It's necessary to kill immediately the infantry generals, a giant and a frost giant because they have very high movement and they can go all around your wall of infantry. Also, some of these high movement units might go north to retake the stables (it happened a couple of times with the frost giant or an infantry general).
When the northern group is in the section with the two frost giants, I found helpful to kill the wolf on the other side of the wall to the south, because it will move to attack Petain at turn 15 or so (at least I think so, there is another wolf near the southern edge of the map, I'm not sure which one moves first). See screenshot (the wolf has just been killed).
Going through the various sections, I didn't rush, I made sure to finish killing the enemies while Bismarck and Li Shimin pounded the walls marked in green. The first generals to venture into the new sections were always Nobunaga and Li Hongzhang to debuff the myth units. It's necessary to keep in mind the enemies' placement, so as to stay out of range of Hades or Zeus or Odin while you're still in the section before theirs.
CONCLUSION:
17 turns, I couldn't have held the initial buildings for one turn more. Now I have the industrial badge, which will be very useful for... for.... for NOTHING! I just finished the game so it's perfectly useless! I would have rather had some medals...
