Now that we are going around spouting our favorite literature... why not?
I have 6 worthy of mention, in order:
1. Letters from a Stoic - Seneca
2. Leviathan - Hobbes
3. The Confessions of St. Augustine of Hippo
4. The Prince - Machiavelli
5. The Art of War (obviously) - Sun Tzu
6. Meditations - Marcus Aurelius
Honorable Mention: The Discourses of Epicetus

I personally like "On tolerance", by Voltaire. Also, if you like Seneca the shortness of life is pretty good too. Then I like Hume's metaphysical principles and theories, but haven't read his own writings that much. Then if we include prose by philosophers, Candide is probably my favourite. But as you can guess, I like reading Voltaire and Hume as well as Rosseau, Russel and Kant. All the ones before Hume are too...I don't know, except for a few. I have plenty of Plato's books, but I do not like them at all.

Gah! I completely forgot. I absolutely ADORE Voltaire (something the fellas at my church seem surprised at). He's funny, brings out some amazing points, is brilliant, and TBH, he knows the Bible better than most Christians of the day.

jokes aside, Voltaire is good, and I’m not sure this counts, but George Orwell makes great political philosophical metaphors
