It's strange to me that you don't like Counterattack. It's useful in all situations regardless of terrain, and can trigger potentially several times per turn, especially if you capture a city and then have to defend it. Worth more than JF in my opinion. Raid is kind of meh, but then Huo is at best your third cavalry general so you may not maintain as much strength as for Commander and Belisarius so it can still be useful, also for DBs. I've been won over to the Arminius camp because nine stars is hard to beat, but I don't understand hating on Huo. It reminds me too much of ToI in WC4 (a skill that I loathe, I even made a thread about it). You will inevitably be attacked, but I don't like the idea of a skill working solely on taking hits. It does hit hard, though, and works, as you said, pretty much anytime, everywhere. I wouldn't agree with the ToI comparison - I don't think I used a general that had it, but as I recall it maxes at +30 damage when your unit is below half health? Which I also thought was a pretty average skill, the damage isn't that much and you want to keep your units above half health as long as possible. It could be useful of course but there are a lot of better skills. Counterattack though is useful from beginning to the end of the battle, it's more like Rommel's Crossfire but probably even better, because you can't really clear out the traffic around you in the way heavy tank generals could in WC4. And your cavalry generals will be fighting in the front line so they will take hits, it's not like he's an archer general. Rain of Arrow - now that is a trash skill.

About Jungle Fighting vs Counterattack, I think Jungle is better in most scenarios. If you're in a Jungle you get +20 on attack and defence while Counterattack only gives +20 on defence. So, on offensive missions where you aren't sitting back defending a city, you can get much more use out of Jungle Fighting. And the majority of missions are offensive missions, there are a lot less hold the ground missions.

Also, in this game, when in doubt just buy literally everything. You can farm absurd amounts of medals. At the point where you are at, you can get 2x30 medals from civil war decisive battle, 15 medals from daily tribute (or 5 if you haven't done Germany), an average of 18 from ads (although if you're willing to take the time you can almost guarantee 36 from save resetting), idk how good your senate is but you can probably get 40-50 medals from daily missions. So, all in all that's 120-160 medals or a gold general every 3-4 days.

It's funny because medals are worth the most in gcr and you can also farm more daily than any other et game except GOG3 (but that would take several hours of grinding per day). In fact, you can get more medals daily in gcr than in wc4 which is the game that medals are worth the least.
