I understand (to a certain extent) that you don't use war Drums, but I can't apprehend why do you hesitate to unlock talents of units. I recall the process was pretty straightforward and I did most missions on auto. Not sure if it solves all problems you face, but some talents are quite good actually.

I recall the process was pretty straightforward and I did most missions on auto. Not sure if it solves all problems you face, but some talents are quite good actually. The best excuse would be the enemy scaling to player strengths, like in the new House of Hauteville. Less talented enemies can still be met with brute force and some thinking (Epic Bapheus and Bouvines proved this, alongside The Wars of the Roses I / II). And I've yet to meet highly talented enemies outside of Territory yet. I found a fix to Baibars' Annex Antioch Stage 2, namely the leeway of using at most 10 drums, big and small. Plus, the usual tactic of using ranged legions to for their pre-emptive counters. When compared to the last segment, Another Defeat for the Crusaders, and subsequent HLs + content in Normal, the difficulty dropped drastically. The difference of having more troops and a base to act from immediately offset many disadvantages!
One of the other stages that I've been frustrated by is Basil II's Antioch or Armenian campaign. I don't recall the trigger units being secretly reinforced and possessing Talents (the other enemy forces don't have this). Although I found a substitute in Alaric I, for Robert(?) Guiscard had a change in skills, the mechanic of the spare enemies must still be tackled. It is now possible to clear the map, excepting those units, but it is still not enough to win.

Are there any other former low tier generals they upgraded, btw? I reinstalled EW7 recently but I still have an old version (the one we could farm Epic battles). I know they improved Baibars (a former silver tier general). Is there anyone else. I've read many frustrating reports about the direction EW7 had taken, but I am curious about some new features they introduced.

It's one of the fastest and easiest / laziest ways to get rich. I thought the Double Expedition tab was merely removed, not the whole thing. I was looking forward to fighting the Talent challenges. It makes sense, IMO, because to get better, you can train your troops. Didn't know this.
Gens belonging to the House of Hauteville, William "Iron Arm" and Robert Guiscard(?), were changed to gold gens with different skills and a "House Bond". Another gen from this family was also added. His active skill locks the active of many gens (I opened a thread). I think more are on their way. Sadly, Robert's wife, Sikelgaita, wasn't improved. According to ET's Facebook page, some players reported that the IAPs had also been discreetly changed to follow the House bond trend. Though I did not verify this. Also, all IAPs that can be directly purchased + Mehmed the Conqueror have skins, with some skill changes here and there, I think.
Besides this, some aesthetic changes. Humphrey of Lancaster, Duke of Gloucester alongside many characters without unique faces had their faces swapped for the face of the new Robert Guiscard's (or another common) face, I think. I thought it's a shame, because having more generic faces adds variety.
Nightmare mode came with its own Treasure hunting series: Treasures of Troy. Nightmare: You get to fight 3-4× the number of initial enemies, many / all with gears and gens with formations. Moreover, the enemy has bonus gens to assist them, alongside more stage edits that benefits the enemy. The point is probably Upgrade Formation + Talent / troops => clear Nightmare => repeat. I'm open to using up to 10 big + small Drums a stage, even though I still don't have Talents yet. The House of Hauteville, I suspect, scales according to player technology upgrades and adds Talent to all enemies. So far, I've been stuck on the first battle because of the OP gen at the end. It feels like an Epic Battle-styled kind of battle, but worse.

How many nightmare campaigns have you, guys, completed? And what resources are needed for upgrading formations?

How many nightmare campaigns have you, guys, completed? And what resources are needed for upgrading formations? Halfway through the very first. Apparently, all chapters have been released. It costs lots of - gold, *** - the respective troop class material (e.g. Target for Single Line formation which is connected to ranged dmg), - seal (used for upgrading nobility), - War Chess (basically a chessboard; most important and rare item), *** - talent material for the specific troop class, - heraldry (upgrading gen ranks). The upgrade requirements increase and/or change based on the current lvl of your formation and its effect. But spending gold and war chess are guaranteed. The rest become permanent later (Seal) or or are swapped out (Heraldry). War Chess can be farmed from Expedition, Challenge Conquest or Nightmare mode. Or you can luck out an buy it quite frequently in the gold store. Not sure about the Territory store. Also, a 91-point (max points possible) conquest features the 5-point option of enabling gens to have random Formations. Though you can drop it since hitting 80 points is enough to get all rewards. Compasses are also sold quite frequently in the gold shop.

Nobunaga Oda, do we have to choose only one formation for a particular general or is it possible to change it when better formations are unlocked? And is it possible to compete with a modest f2p team in Expeditions and Territory battles? My version of the game is currently 1.6.2 and obviously I lose many new materials while continuing, but, on the other hand, I can farm first 2 decisive battles at will and have no real problems in Territory and Expeditions. I want to be sure I won't lose more than I gain before updating it.

My version of the game is currently 1.6.2 and obviously I lose many new materials while continuing, but, on the other hand, I can farm first 2 decisive battles at will and have no real problems in Territory and Expeditions. I want to be sure I won't lose more than I gain before updating it. You can semi-permanently equip a gen with a formation and change it in the field, bit I've not tried this. E.g. I gave Subutai the Single Line, so he appears with it in battle when deployed (need not be from a green circle). I am still able to change it for that battle, but note the high movement cost. Or, you can just remove the equipped Formatjon in your Camp if you want him to be deployed with something better in future battles.
Depends on what "modest" means. If you mean every F2P gen with a HL + key gens like Subutai, Murad, medics, etc., yes. Even better with Talent, Formation and key T4-6 units. I stopped checking, but Expeditions with Formation appear very late into the main 20 battles with low frequency, but they're likely to show from the expansion onwards (especially in the 200k and above range). Michael VIII and Princess Sophia are exceptionally good because of their AOE healing active and Robert's active allows him to heal upon beating a full legion. Note: Formation doesn't factor into power level, last time I checked and complained. When you see gens with them, be very cautious. They appear from the 200k range onwards, but there are those who concentrate power into few gens. Also, I think ET designed Territory to match enemy player power to our accumulated points. I see many at or above 200k (including those exceeding 300k) now that I am close to 1000 points.
