I will explain why he is the best and compare him with the other top gold infantry generals.
- has op active skill (outburst) which triggers charge that round. Charge is op and it allows you to attack all 3 units rather than just attacking the first one in a group of units. This means you are dealing about double-triple the damage per hit and you can do 2 hits in 1 round. charge cavarly units have built in charge but melee units have a low chance (10%) so this skill guarantees it.
- strong melee skills (melee infantry - boost melee infantry damage by 4%, master of assault - axe units deal 5% more damage) - total of 9% extra damage for melee axe units. If you pre-registered, you would have gotten 30 viking raider units and if you complete the viking raiders campaign, you will get 30 more which lets you upgrade these units to level 6. These units receive the 9% extra damage from harald because they are double axe melee units.
- has high title: crowned prince
- best thing is you can buy him now, he is not locked by campaign so you don't need to wait for update. he works straight away.
now we can compare him with the other top gold infantry generals and i will explain why they are inferior:
- khalid: he is probably the 2nd best. He has greater overall points but not specialised like harald (less infantry points, higher cav and range points but only infantry skills), costs 150 more medals, his active skill is good (deal 20% more damage) but is much weaker than charge skill, has 2 infantry skills for melee swordsmen that gives a total of 9% extra damage - same as harald but we don't get any special sword melee units at the start. can buy him now.
- simeone: also good but not the best, has same charge skill as harald, but has 1 melee and 1 cav skill so not specialised as harald or khalid. He costs 150 medals more than harald. his master commander skill is useful (reduce recruitment cost by 15%). His melee skill works with counter infantry rather than melee units for harald or khalid. can buy him now.
- roland: most expensive in terms of medals, lowest infantry points out of all, has 2 melee skills and 1 cav skills so not fully specialised. his active skill is pretty useless (loot 15 ore). He has unique equipment like the premium generals which costs money to buy so he isn't free and his equipment gives damage bonus for speed cavarly - so he is more of a cav general with 2 infantry skills.
- baldwin: has highest title (emperor), has same infantry points as harald and 2 infantry skills, but his active skill is not amazing like charge (increases mobility by 2). Worst thing about him is he is locked and you can't get him in this version, need to wait for update.
To summarise, harald is cheaper than these generals, has the best active, has melee skills that works for the best melee units available to us at early stage (viking raiders) and also the best melee infantry in end game (varangian guard), has highest infantry points out of all generals. The only other gold general that is identical to him in skills and infantry points is beowulf (he costs money).
