I have now begun another Victoria 2 campaign as the USA, again using HPM.
Phase 1: Manifest Destiny and Confederate Grave
First step was getting goody goody with Texas in order to protect them from Mexico. Soon, mexico begins winning the war and i intervene. Soon, the Mexicans accept my offer of Status Quo and leave Mexico alone. Then I begin sphering the states in the Western Hemisphere, such as Brazil, Chile and Venezuela. I then declared war on Denmark and ended up taking Greenland and Iceland, the Danish Virgin Isands and Danish India. After Denmark was put on the chopping block, i then took Panama from Colombia and annexed Costa Rica and Nicaragua. During this time, I was also able to outlaw slavery before there could be an event which prevented me from doing so, meaning the Civil War is now impossible. By 1844, Texas applied for statehood and the Mexican-American War began. I win the war and extend democracy from Sea to Shining Sea...minus Oregon or Washington. However, after a wagon train and two treaties with Britain, Oregon and Washington became mine as with British Wisconsin and Maine. American lands were now secured.
Phase 2: Empire building
After the treaties with the U.K, i declared on the Dutch. After the war with the Dutch, i take Dutch Guyana, Dutch Caribbean Islands, Dutch Borneo, and Dutch Africa. After the Americo-Dutch War, i defeat the Qing in a war and i take Shanghai as a treaty port. After China, i took out the states in Borneo and Vietnam.
Phase 3: Spanish-American War in 1956
After an American ship is sunk in a Filipino harbor, the American yellow press blames it on the Spanish. Immediately after, war was declared. First the Philippines were occupied, then Cuba, and finally Spain itself. The war ended after two years of brutal war, but ended with great reward: The US annexed Cuba, Puerto Rico, Equilateral Guinea, the Philippines, the Mariana Islands, and Palau.
The United States of America is now a great empire, from sea to shining sea, a republic stretching four continents, and the guardian of the Western Hemisphere.
