Yes, I've read all the posts and long discussions about who's the best and now know, what I must have Basil as cavalry and Harald as Infantry , but jokes aside - what I really should buy now? I have above 4000 medals and my generals are Alfred, Robin Hood and other free ones. I've started Rise of Bysantium campaign. I want to buy one cavalry general and I'm in doubt about the third infantry gen, cause I already have Belisarius and Aetius, but maybe I don't know something about further campaigns/missions/legends. So could someone help me and give plain and simple advice?

I think we have to think long-term. Just an example. There are two cavalry units in the game with a very high charge probability - templars (well, evidently the most powerful but definitely not the easily obtainable cavalry unit) with a 90 percent probability and Heavy-armored cavalry (a bit weaker in defence than templars, but with a nice passive skill and more easy to get and to upgrade) with 85 percent. Just ask yourself: who will be the best general for these two cavalry units. In my opinion, those generals who are able to increase the crit chance up to 100 percent. That means the generals with "charge cavalry expert" skill. In ET games the difference between 100 percent and 80-90 percent percent is HUGE. Just ask any experienced EW5 players about Lidership lvl 8 It just won't trigger in the most important moment So, taking all this into account, I would say that YOU, namely Martel , is a very interesting option. He has an excellent synergy between his skills and his active skill will profit greatly from his 100 crit chance. No-one will tell you even to consider it, and maybe some newly born "experts" will tell you that he is trash. But mark my words - we'll hear about Martel

Thank you for very original proposal! I'll consider it later (now I'm not near my iPad, so can't see his stats and his items/legends). But what about infantry general? Should I buy one or use Belisarius and Aetius until the end? And if I should, which one?

Thank you for very original proposal! I'll consider it later (now I'm not near my iPad, so can't see his stats and his items/legends). But what about infantry general? Should I buy one or use Belisarius and Aetius until the end? And if I should, which one? It is quite simple, imo. If you don't have any serious problems - just don't buy anyone. Your medals won't go anywhere. When you start experience difficulties, only then it is time to ask: what is my weakness and what is my strength? I doubt that you will need another Infantry general for currently available campaigns (both normal and hard), but in the long-term I would consider Cnut the Great, because of his interesting active skill and access to special chapter. Obviously generals with Outburst are very good too, but there are many interesting cheap options, not just Hardrada. For example, William the Iron Arm, who is a coin general. He is not available now, but he is very close to Hardrada in many respects. Hardrada-lite, so to say So, don't spend your medals until it is really necessary, take your time and keep your options open.

At that stage of the game, I think you should best stick with bronze tier generals. This version of EW has many good low tier generals, they have some unique active skills that high tier gens don’t have. Give them some upgrades and items and they’ll get the job done. To name the ones: 1. Dihya: a good Inf Gen, better at defending, but ok with attacking. And even support other gens with her unique active skill. 2. Robert Curthose and Stilicho: two very good Archer Gens; with their Fatal Blow skill, they’re equally good defend or attack, give them 1 Spearmen + 2 Ranged units. 3. Adil: a good and versatile general, he has Healing skill, you can upgrade some ranks for him and make him into whatever you want, Cav, Inf, Support... 4. Gelimer: a good support general, he also not far from Stilicho in leading Ranged units. If you have a strong general like Basil II, Gelimer’s active skill could make Basil attack once more after he finished 2 attacks. 5. Totila and Andronikos III: two best Cav Gen of bronze tier, put all attributes and items to Cav ability for them, and their Outburst won’t make you regret. You can make Totila a Melee Inf Gen also but that’s not worth it, we have so many good Inf Gens for that role. 6. Theodora and Antonina: not much to say about the two Aministrators, they’re needed to be Consul. And their active skills are very good. 7. Many, many others, that very good for support role with some unique active skill I found nowhere like Poison, Master Arsonist... You should get a handful number of low tier gen, and keep getting the unit&everything else for some (best 3, 1 of each Cav/Inf/Archer) premium or gold tier gens.
