How are the battles in this game different/worse than the games before? With there no longer being only hexagons, positioning is more important. You can control from how much sides you will be attacked or get stuck in choke points for example. It's a shame that legions can't swap places like they could in GOG3's Army Groups, though. And, since attacking and movement share one stat, the attacker usually has to move and can attack only once while the defender can attack twice (given he survives the attack).

Honestly that was the dumbest thing I wrote and I thought it was fine at the time but yeah the combat got completely overhauled A general with a swap active would be pretty neat
