I'm also struggling to find a good direction to expand for this. Passau is good, but whether to head west (Rome and Alemanni) or south (Ostrogoths) bugged me.
The benefits of heading south is facing the Huns at Vienna, Passau and Budapest, while heading west puts you right in front of their entire army.

mar, Well Blitz through roman empire until I get there capital city Ravenna (at around ten rounds) to have a decent amount of money to deploy a lot of cavalry for there archer cavalry (the huns).  please donโt mind how many rounds I wasted just to finished 1 conquest, I am not a speedrunner kind of guy and like to be in a moment when playing like I imagine that I am the ruler of that nation and being as peaceful as possible and letting my allies to get the job done for me. Hehe

I tried it yesterday and got my *** beaten by Huns. I'll give it another try when I have better troops and better generals
