I'm putting together my personal to do list because this time I was smart enough to disable auto updating:) So far there is:
-Normandy campaign (#3?) because of the templar knight -Avoid conquests because that will make me miss out on compasses after updating
What about Hero Legends and Pharao treasures? Is it good to invest in melee infantry units and generals because it seems they will no longer be an front line alternative? (to counter inf)

You probably won't miss out any compasses. I received 26 or so after updating the game. Plus got several milestone rewards.

The main problem with Pharaoh's treasure and special chapters is not that we have to overcome a tough counter opposition, but that AI's led units are far above the level of out own troops. There are at least 4 ways to solve this problem: 1. Just to leave them alone for now They won't go anywhere. 2. To try to advance as far as possible using your current troops and drums when necessary. 3. To upgrade some of your units to a reasonable level to complete those missions. Some of our mercenaries are quite easy to upgrade because we get a lot of fragments. Heavy-armored skirmishers, heavy Lance cavalry, Vikings - just an example. 4. Just to concentrate on upgrades of your best units dismantling all other fragments without mercy.

So, seemingly the only thing holding me back is a mission which Nobunaga Oda has already shown how to beat. Having only recently dipped into this unit hiring system, would you say that I should exploit that charge cav and melee inf imbalance (no varangains unlocked so far) or is it a waste of gold, medals and time? I try to catch up, but is it a shortcut or a cul de sac?

It is quite easy to upgrade them up to a certain level, so you don't need much investments after all. But after unlocking elite units, you have to sacrifice something or it will be eternity to progress. The bad thing is that the exchange of war souls for fragments is very unfavourable to us. Yet it is the only way to get precisely what we want to get. So, my advice: 1. Don't hesitate to use saves/loads if you get a real trash. 2. Set priorities. There are many interesting units out there, but it is impossible to get all of them at once. My priorities for now are: phalanx pikemen, Varangians, Elephant archers and Noble cavalry. Of course, I keep all tier 5 units, but I dismantle pretty much everything else. 3. Upgrade as many standard troops as possible, because we won't find many elite units in campaigns and we can deploy only one general with elite units at the start. 4. Take your time and don't rush through Pharaoh's missions etc. They will be much easier with each upgrade. 5. Make conquests your main source of medals, scrolls, other stuff. They are quite easy even with mediocre troops and generals. You will get enough gold and resources to upgrade your troops and generals and that, in its turn, will make campaigns and other modes of the game more easy.

Good thing that conquests are fun in this game. And if I understand correctly, you'd ideally combine Elephant shooters with charge cav/Outburst and a Forced March user. Hard campaigns 6/7/8 become really difficult with the current upgrade limitations. Are there any notable rewards in terms of unit fragments?

My standard units mostly have lvl 3-4, so I don't feel any necessity to complete those missions right now. Especially taking into account that there are many objectives like to protect an allied general who is encircled by lvl 8-9 enemy units. Eventually these campaigns will be like a walk in the park and I don't like to overcome artificial difficulties

Do we get something else besides 20 medals and 5 mercenary orders for completion of lvl 50 of Pharaoh's treasure? I mean an ultimate reward or something else of the sort. Previous battles were relatively easy but at stage 50 we face 6 generals with mostly lvl 15 units. I don't want to be involved in this bloodbath at the moment, if we don't have any additional rewards for completing it. yuanzhong, andrei?
