Seeing all the history stuff I decided to do something else. The cause of WW1, the assassination of Franz Ferdinand.
Let's go back to 1907 when Bosnia was annexed by Austria-Hungary from the Ottoman Empire. Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the throne and with the emperor Franz Joseph (who had a very cool beard btw)
being 86 years old, he (Franz Ferdinand) would likely very soon become emperor. He was very patriotic and he saw the Slavs as not on the same level as him. But he thought of adding the Slavs to the double monarchy making it a triple monarchy with the Slavs being the 3rd party. In addition, Franz was kind of a counter to Konrad von Hötzendorf (who next to Potiorek was possibly the worst general in the whole WW1) who had tried like 30 times to start a war in the years before 1914. Franz Ferdinand was possibly one of the worst humans in Europe or the whole world. His idea of hunting was that he'd be on a machine gun and mowing down animals coming towards him.
As everybody knows (or should know), Franz Ferdinand and his wife were shot by Gavrilo Princip on June 28th 1914 in Sarajevo. I don't want to exactly go into the assassination and its background as it may spark controversy. Now, Princip was pretty stupid in killing Ferdinand because with Franz becoming emperor soon he would give the Slavs more freedoms and that was what Princip was going for. Princip tried committing suicide with a revolver but was stopped and imprisoned. He was too young (19) to be executed (20) but the officials lied about his age. At the end he'd be in jail and die there 1918 not being executed before the end of the war. Franz Joseph died 1916. WW1 was pretty much unavoidable especially in German eyes a war against Russia was needed until it could become completely industrialised.
After the assassination the July crisis happened with Austria-Hungary sending an ultimatum to Serbia pretty much demanding them to become a vassal. Serbia agreed on most things but not on all. Hötzendorf got the war he wanted so much and rode to Empire to its fall.
If you have any questions, let me know
