I'll get all the units upgraded! I've already prepared myself to a EW5 type grind marathon This will be longest marathon we have until now, longer than both EW5 and GoG2.

How do you get heavy armored cavalry fragments anyway other than souls of war anyway? They aren't available in the normal recruitment pool and I only have 10 from the conquest honor. The reward for Border Crisis 7 (hard) includes 10 enlistments. Also honor of soldier gives 10 enlistments at stage 21 (it will take time to reach it, though).

And those who have access to advanced rewards get 30 fragments more.

It is a question I am asking myself as well. In my situation as a f2p player I will probably choose HAC in the end. But if I had Richard and thus 30 fragments at the start, I would go for Templars. Besides, there is always a risk that they will nerf HAC one day because this unit is really close to tier 5 and 6 rivals. I wish I had invested in cataphractS more than Noble cavalry (due to the costs). I hope they won’t nerf HAC since 1.5 IAP generals share this sexy unit.

Investments in noble cavalry is not a loss, I think. Probably it will be one of the few decent units available for hire in campaigns. Heavy-armored cavalry, on the other hand, is almost exclusively Eastern Roman or Norman unit. And definitely we won't have many Templars for hire.

But everything You guys say is a heresy. There is a well known guide and I have no idea why we even talk about HAC. Everyone must focus everybody knows what.
