How do you guys get so much medals? I've played for 4 days and the only way I get medals is in campaigns and missions, missions gives me 10 and campaigns give me 100 and it was really hard to collect them, I currently hold 400 and planning to buy BoL is it worth it? I read somewhere in the threads here that it eas second to gungnir

I you can spend money then certainly yes. Do buy it. In most cases you will not require that though( if you watch iron Duke's videos)

You need to clear Empire mode as far as possible. There are requirements on the number of cities owned and your corresponding player level, if I'm not wrong, that lock the number of Daily Missions per refresh and the reward levels of each mission.
You need to aim for 150 to 155 cities and Discovery to Gunpowder Age, if I'm not wrong. These will enable each refresh to carry 10 missions of 20 Medals each. Take your time to develop your gens because you'll hit roadblocks quite soon.
There are also two refreshes of three attempts at Legend mode. You can earn some Medals from beating the boss.
Each campaign clear on first try, achievement and every(?) conquest cleared gives you Medals.
Also, Daily Ads give 60 Medals or more under lucky circumstances.
So far, no one has said that owning the Bottle of Life is a must-have, however, it is very good to have when used well.

Further to the above you should be able to get to 5 missions pretty quickly by playing Empire mode.

But it's very boring, I don't advise doing it. massena, I would advise a modified version for the early game. Open/close the menu that shows the ad reward until you get 12 medals and 5 literature. Now you have a 67% chance to get something useful. You can then use save/load to improve the results or just leave it at that.
If you're patient and don't want to farm conquests then going for the 5 literature is the best result (early on) since it will help you most with accessing the full 690 medals daily grind.

Mr jonblend, I am afraid that I would not be able to collect the medals twice as my sleeping patterns are not in line with the reward system of the game. Thank you for your advice.

This is not a game that can be played and won in days. It is long term and strategic.
I am three years into this and have won twice until the game changes and hooks you into playing more and more. It is a great game and it requires patience to get medals to upgrade generals/artifacts ect...
the best part is you have to really think about combining the generals/artifacts/weapons for each mission as needed. There is no fix with a tuned up team. cav com/ arch com/ inf com works in some but not all. artillery was not that important two years ago but now it is important. mixed teams are best dependent on the particular mission. You need to combine each com to fit each mission. Artifacts get you so far, COMMANDERS IN UNISON WHEN ACTIVE ARE THE GAME WINNERS.
GOOD LUCK, This is a game that keeps on giving. Played all glory of gens and beat them all. THIS GAME IS DIFFERENT

There is one tip i can give to new players… USE YOUR MEDALS WISELY. Rushing empire mode to get as many cities is key. It allows more medal gain. Also, you will need a few great generals. Check out the general rankings on this board, and read all skills of generals. This is key. Also be patient. This is not a game which you an rush and win. It is a strategic game of investing resources correctly and holding the right strategy to win stages. Still remember how i got my friends to try, and they all complained that it was too hard, mainly because they did not inves in the right generals, and did poorly in campaign. My suggestions for generals is to rush attila, and nobunaga. These generals can carry you far
