At first glance Roland looks pretty bad with mediocre stats, middling ranks, and meh skills, however that is without accounting his claim to fame the Durandal.
His goated item is one of the main factors that make Roland as good as he is upgrading his skills and giving him stats that make him an exceptional cavalry general when invested into.
His main drawbacks are that he needs his item in order to be great, his subpar skills and the availability or lack thereof of the Hussar, his unique unit.
All in all he's a solid cavalry general if you decide to buy him and I'd give him a 4/5
