Historical Battle rule book:
Historical battles are a fun and entertaining game on this forum. Here are the rules:
There will be 2 armies, each one with a handful of regiments that a person can claim. We only do battles before 1870, as battles after that would be too complex to make. Each army will have a team leader, who owns a core regiment. The core regiment is the largest regiment, and can be used to reinforce a regiment or to attack themselves. A team leader can also command a regiment to attack and withdraw, though regiments can do that without a command as well. To become a team leader you must receive my permission.
Troops and combat:
There are several different unit types. Each has their own defense and attack. A stands for attack and D stands for defense
Light Infantry: A-2 D-3
Heavy Infantry: A-3 D:4
Light Cavalry: A-3 D:1
Heavy Cavalry: A- 4 D-2
Light Missile: A-4 D-0 (Auto-death upon being attacked)
Heavy Missile: A-5 D-0 (auto death upon being attacked)
Fortifications:
Stakes: 30 Health, 2 counterattack
Wagon Laager: 40 health, 1 counterattack
Barricade: 60 health, 0 counterattack
Functions:
Regiments can engage in combat with each other. Each regiment has a set number of units. The regiments can send units to fight each other. A unit is killed when an enemy attack is greater than the unit’s defense. If the same type of unit fight each other, dice will be rolled and the higher roll wins. A regiment can retreat from battle any time, thought they will have to sacrifice a unit to do so. Core regiments, meanwhile, cannot retreat.
Movements:
There are 5 terrain type: Plains, Forest, Elevation, River, and Water Body. All movements are the same for each terrain type, as movement penalties are not a thing in this game. However, when on Forest, Missile has -1 attack, when on Elevation Cavalry has -1 attack, and when on rivers Infantry has -1 attack. Plains do not have any penalties and water bodies are non-traversable.
Determining victory:
A victory is declared for an army when all regiments of the enemy are completely destroyed or when the Head Coach (me) decides to end the battle (though very rarely will I end a battle early.)
NOTE: toxicity and trolling is not allowed and will result in your regiment being destroyed. If someone willingly leaves the game, an audience member is welcome to claim their regiment. If no one claims it, the regiment will be destroyed. A team leader leaving will result in there being no team leader and the core regiment destroyed.
We are currently voting for the first historical battle. The poll is located in the “Historical Battles” thread in the Officer’s lounge.
Severe rule-breaks:
These rule breaks have severe consequences:
Impersonating a coach: Blacklist from Historical Battles, appealable
Bigotry/Sexism/Racism: Blacklist from Historical Battles, unappealable
Ad Hominem: Kick from game, unable to join next Historical Battles game (Ad Hominem does not include the toxicity rulebreak, which is not severe.) Appealable
Remember, we are trying to keep this game fun and immersive for everyone, and breaking the rules disturbs the environment of Historical Battles. Please be a responsible Battler and follow the rules!
Note: We are looking for coaches for Historical Battles. People with experience in the roleplay community do not have to pass a test to become a coach (such as roleplay officers, longtime role players, etc.) however, to become a coach without meeting this criteria you must have played at least 1 historical battle game and must pass a test.
Have fun!
