So, in this thread of posts, I will be looking at one nation at a time. My goal is to look at any generals that each nation has that you can buy, sort of rank them, and then consider the question asked below.
Could you win the game with only using generals from this one nation?
Depending on how quick this goes I may also look at allies vs axis, and try to figure which one has the advantage if you were only to use one side of generals.
First up, America

America is not known for many great generals in this game. I could talk about Generals and Admirals like Kincaid, Buckner, Spruance, Abrams, and others that were good, but they are not in the game so we will not talk about them. Tanks are the most important part of this game so we will start there.
The mighty Patton. Known for moving quick in real life and being a hard hitter, on this game he simply is not the best out there. However, he is the only American tank general. Six stars, and two open slots, so he will do some damage and really help if you are America, but he simply doesn't match others. To back him up you have MacArthur. Solid general will move fast and do damage but has the same problem as Patton. There is simply better in the game, and he will struggle (Debatable). He is a must have if you decide American generals are what you want. He also can play tank and navy a little bit. You have two other land generals as America. First is Arnold. Arguably the best air general in the game, with level four rumor from the beginning, he does not disappoint. The problem? Has an air general ever been your main general? His rumor will do tons and so will his air strikes, but don't expect him to be amazing leading your forces to a glorious victory. The other general is Bradley. A hybrid that probably is best on artillery, he covers tanks and navy also. However, he excels at none of it, unless he is on a mountain. Then he goes from okay to better than okay. He simply is not all that great compared to others, but that's your last choice, and you going to need someone.
There is one place that America excels at, and that is navy. Nimitz leading the charge, with Eisenhower, Halsey, and Flecther backing him up. Ha, you even can have Bradley and MacArthur in the mix. Yes, we can argue that there are better generals than the last five, and Nimitz can be outclassed by others, but the point is that if you are America and you build a big navy, you will have plenty of generals to put on the ships. While they may not be the best generals, any general is better than nothing.
Possibility of beating the game with only American generals: Very low.
Possibility of beating World of Warships with this lineup: Pretty high

Next up is Britian. As with America, we will start with gold tier and work our way down. Montgomery. A solid tank general, that also can go on an aircraft carrier and be good. Skills are okay, but he also has two open slots. Add the right skills and while he may not be Guderian, he will do some good damage for you. You also don't have much of a different choice as Britian, so buy him. Here to lead your artillery Battalions to victory is Alexander. The problem? He simply is not the best. Good movement, five stars in artillery, but his skills are something not to talk about. You have one open slot, but this won't change the fact he simply doesn't cut it. But, as with America, you must use what you have. Your navy is led by the mighty Mountbatten. This is an admiral that, while expensive to max, is worth it. While we can argue there is better naval admirals, he can get the job done. He also can back up Alexander in a pinch. Your air general is Dowding. Solid at his role, with up to four artillery stars, he will help you. Also is not super expensive, so buy him. The last ones to talk about is Slim and Auchinleck. Slim is your one chance at an infantry general. I actually think that he is usable to a certain extent. You also don't have another choice, so add him sometime. Auchinleck will be an expensive person to make into anything. Only three tank starts, two infantry stars, and one movement star to start out. Level three explosives are nice, with Panzer leader and desert fighting. Max this guy out, put him in Africa, and he actually might can hurt someone. It is just a lot of medals to make someone only okay, and only in Africa at that. If Britian could add Wingate, Wavell, Pound, and Cunningham, we might could have better options. But we can't.
Possibility to win the game as Britian: Low
Possibility to lose the game while drinking a lot of tea: Much higher
I'm tired. Might do more tomorrow, might forget that this thread exists. I dunno
