This new update of gcr really showed us their true powers. The new conquest and epic war might seem hard for you but dont worry here are some tips and tricks to lessen that stress and make things easier.
I. Conquest (Great Conqueror Time)
Might be hard as you think, because the orcs are strong, but you can actually take care of that fastly and swiftly without having some stress increasing. Notice their cities?
Once they move units out of it they dont have anything to defend it with except for spawning new troops in their altar. (the altar is a legion-structure that spawns monsters at the specific type. example: terracotta for war chariot and griffins in ancient giant.)
- The trick is this. Put your fastest generals at one monster country you want to destroy (ex. wanting to defeat Dragon asap). Put some monsters in them that can tank, probably include griffin also for its speed, you will use that to defend cities. Steamroll these generals to the cities, you can kill the city garrisons in the city itself or lure them first. Since they dont have anything to defend other than spawning some at their altars, you can relax and dont panic when you can take the city because you can take it anyway. Do that, spot enemy, destroy cities in quick succession and defeat that in 9-10 turns.
- If you dont think or cant kill them fastly, I have a tip for you to play them safe. It concerns with on how the altar works. The altars spawn monsters in a number of turns, and it spawns them on one hex beside them, similar on how you normally spawn a monster. You can block monsters from spawning by covering them with units. here is an example.
*keep in mind that just a one-stack auxiliary infantry is enough to cover an altar.
This is so there will no extra reinforcements for the monsters to bite your back, more importantly when the monsters have started moving in to steamroll your allies in ~20 turns. While the monsters cannot spawn, you can just attack the cities and eventually destroying them.
- Alternatively, you can just destroy the altars, but that will take some 3-5 turns, on which that delay of your march just to take the altars down can lead to a harder situation.
II. Epic War
This new gameplay has one kind of a challenge. Not because there is many monsters in a level but instead you cannot replenish your generals. So you have to improvise and you have to use what you have to complete a level.
- First of all you have to plan whose generals you will deploy. Keep in mind that these generals have their own unit which you can use as your advantage. Example is this:
at this example here, I am using woad raiders against terracotta warriors and the war chariots for the yellow infantry.
there is some generals who can excel in their units and others who not. so choose carefully.
Best recommendations for generals:
IAPs, Commander because they do good (Not recommended to use navy comm)
Archer Cavalry generals such as Mithridates, Surena against cavalry
Woad raider generals such as Verc, Bato, Burebista against cyclops, terra
War chariot generals such as Belisarius against infantry
Other recommendations: Octavian(archer), Pompey(speed)
I dont personally recommend elite guards, legions, javelins(exc octavian), and all other types of units. I also dont recommend much war elephant because only Hannibal is good for that, and is mentioned as IAP.
- Your monsters is the real key. All monsters, from goblin to behemoth is reaaally important for this. Since you cannot replenish generals, you cannot afford to have them weakened and/or lose them. So you can use these monsters to either defend cities or help with your advance.
- Another tactic I will suggest for here, even tho I dont know it this is really useful is to rebuilding city fortifications. I dont mean the city itself but its areas. You have a huge ton of money which you cannot even use offensibly, so destroying and rebuilding city areas can help at extending the lifetime of a city.
- Last but not the least, Plague ,Arson, and artifact/items/war gears that inflicts poison and fire and magma(idk if there is an item that causes magma) are much helpful in destroying altars. Altars having a high hitpoints can be countered by the damage of these two tactics by their damage based on the targets hp%.

-List for the monsters
-Destroying volcanoes isnt really important because you can avoid the tiles they make lava and they only cover a somehow small range so yeah
-and consider also your weapon type and what it can do. For example, thump troops can deal immense dmg to the heavy armored troops and rampart.
-and best monsters overall: Behemoth, Anubis, Cyclops. But as long you know how to use every single one of them it is good.
-any suggestions tell it to me
