Roles for Gens:
1.Damage Dealers: These are your charge cav, varangian guard, and archer gens like El Cid, Cnut, Richard, Alfred, Baldwin, etc. Should be placed behind bait gens to take powerful gens out once the bait tanks the damage.
2.Bait:Typically your weaker defense infantry or archer gens like Belisarius, Narses, etc. Used to tank damage from gens like Richard, El Cid, Alfred, etc
3.Reserves: Typically Melee Cav, Archer gens that give you buffs and are mediocre like Fredrick, Roland, Nur Din, etc. Use them for flanking in endgame or plug them in when a damage dealer is lost.
General Tips:
1.Always click on enemy unit to check their reach to ensure you won't lose units.
2.Make sure to always get the first hit on the enemy
3. Always make sure your damage dealer and reserve gens are not facing two units at a time when fighting unless completely confident.
4. Take your time this isn't a race, you have 21 turns.
1. Deployment:
Try to concentrate your units close to each other, so they can actually support one another when being attacked my enemy units. Unlike, when spread out where your units will be isolated and crushed one by one if your enemy just decides to full send. Try to deploy on the side that is further away from the charge cav units.
2. Determine what mode the troops are set on:
There are three modes that defensive legions can be set on. Defensive, Attack, and Patrol. Most commonly people will set defensive troops to guard forts and towers, while they have mobile patrol units like Richard and other cav gens to take out enemy units. Sometimes the enemy will decide to full send by setting all units to attack. This is a high risk high reward strategy. Other times the enemy just sets to full defensive, which is basically a trade mark of 0 braincells as you can pick off the enemy troops one by one easily. To determine what mode to set on you have to follow these steps:
a. End the first turn to see if they set it to attack or not. If no units have moved they are either set to patrol or defensive.
b. Move one of your bait units into range of one of the units not in a fortification and set up your damage dealers behind. If no units come then they are defensive.
3a.Full Send Scenario:
You will win depending if they or you get the first hit. Always remain cautious in this scenario, try to keep your troops in place so they can't reach you as effectively. Baldwin is useful for this scenario as he can easily switch to the front and back line with his ability. Always focus on the charge cav first as they can deal devestating damage if they make contact, then archer, then cavalry. Make sure to keep a double axe gen in reserve to take out the archer gens. This is really dependent the power of your gens and the levels of your units.
3b. Patrol Scenario:
Use bait gen to lure out enemy units. After they maul down the unit, use your charge cav to destroy these units piecemeal. Baldwins switch ability is useful for this as he can attack twice sometimes. Circle around the map and make sure you get all these patrol units. Then at the final step close in and take out the units in the forts one by one, and finally go for the cities.
3c. Defensive Scenario:
The enemy have zero brain cells, take them out individually and make sure you don't face two enemy gens at a time.Alfred or another bait gen is useful for the fact that they could damage the forifictations first to allow your charge cav units to charge.
