Which one is better? Take price completely out of account. Caesar has better base stats and skills, but Alex has nice friendliness bonuses as well as his amazing saddle, so I don't know.

Probably Caesar. I'm trying to get three stars in the last infantry missions of Ust-Nera and survivability is a big issue. Braveness makes everything easier. Just this skill is enough to pick him over Alexander, if I had to choose. Even considering the price, there would be no change in this evaluation: Alexander is free and has less useful skills to upgrade (just one), but he will require a hell of a lot of medals anyway. |

i agree with caesar for the same points. By rough stats caesar still a little bit better so even alexander with lv10 attack expert cannot match caesar basic attack(with friendliness) as well all the other stats, by skill, rage and features at lv7 they are pretty equal.
The overall damage output of alexander is higher because of fury and fort bonus but both skills are very situational since fury have a very limited(no) control and in the late game mission the infantry bonus agaist the building is useless or very limited since forts are not a big issue and you will probably already have 1-2 artilliery with you. The main problem is surviability, alexander is a damage-oriented first line general but i found him very fragile and difficult to mantain alive and always need a healer around or commander support to 1-kill, on the other hand caesar is a lone one-man army suitable with any team composition,and im not talking about cure cure master or tanky defence stat but his skill braveness in endgame missions REALLY makes the difference and can spawn his life on the battlefield.
At least this is my experience with them at lvl 7

does caesar not have his own item?
I was surprised that gallic wars wasnt given to caesar
