Guys i did only 2 conquests in the first stage and idk they rly suck? compared to ew4, ew1914 and ew7 where i loved conquest rly much. gcr i can hardly stand to play them. and to make it worse the ai + turn skipping seemed to make a step back from their other games! forcing me to play them manually ... what am i doing wrong? i am not looking for speciffic conquest guides, rather for overall advice how to enjoy them do they get worse or better in later stages? have you guys actually played them all?

Once you have tasted the forbidden fruit of making enemies surrender, it's hard to go back to manually conquering the world And with medals being available from decisive battles for less time spent, there's only the banners from conquest achievements remaining as incentives.
You could also challenge your inner speed runner and try to win in less then 30 turns (even less than 20 is sometimes possible). This is possible without needing beneficial rng or having to play a country multiple times for optimal movement of your generals.
I did all of them once up to Rome vs Han before dbs were available and none since then :-)

well yeah i love surrender. but ETs old games didnt have that either and i was very much speedrunning those conquests. just feels like here there are so many city defenses you have to bring down to even get to the city... which they sourround. and units without generals feel less impactful than in any other game but more fragile. plus fog of war really nullifies the good movement my gens would have. bad joke always beeing stopped by some enemy and taking forever to get to cities even though i could be there in one turn. scouting with other units could be useful but they of course have bad movement without gens. jonblend are you spamming inf to scout?

non-general units that can take a few cities: swordmen, light inf, light cav with (advanced) battering ram
general units: pre-spawned ones and swordmen/ light cav for earlier conquests; heavy cav and heavy inf for later ones or special units (axemen, legionary, etc)
Also, getting your literature income up so you can spam forced march, oration and destroy freely helps a lot.
(these are just guide lines, there might be situations where deviating is ok)
Back in the days, the score was higher when we used fewer generals, so it was Antony, Pompey and Commander all the time (+occasionally Crassus or Tiberius) and yes, no archer generals. But with better movement items and no penalty for using more generals and summons, there are probably a lot more options to discover.
