I'm currently at Discovery Age and my core generals are Alexander, Hannibal, Hua Mulan (Awakened) and Cleopatra, along with Lincoln, Barbarossa, Joan of Arc, and Saladin. I've saved 1000+ medals now and have enough generals to do 4 missions at once, enough cities to have 7 or 8 missions appear at once and each outputting 15 medals, with 2 princess giving 50 medals. What should I do to increase my medal earning daily? And should I spend on Generals, General skill upgrades, or items? Currently I've got my eyes on Attila, Caesar and Li Shi Min. But they all cost 2000+ medals, so I'm curious what other faster way of medal earning you guys have.

To earn medals more quickly, it's best to complete Empire mode as much as possible. 155 or 115 cities and perhaps player lvl are the requirements. This will provide two sets of 10× 20-medal daily missions.
Also, aim to clear as many reasonable Achievement requirements as possible.
You need to decide on your primary 8 lineup. What formation will you use? Will it be archer, inf or cav centric? Li Shimin and Atilla can fit into any of these lineups so they are all good choices, especially if you get the ever-ready Atilla first. Li performs best with his troops' AOE ability unlocked. Caesar is more inf-centric.

I'm thinking on getting Atilla, since he's the cheapest and has bravery, add up his active skill and I think I see him and Saladin rampaging over every other troops

Even in a non-cav oriented core team, this pair can wreak havoc when well supported. Note: Atilla's Commander and Braveness are both worth upgrading, but aiming for lvl 6 Braveness and lvl 10 Commander first is preferable, IMO. You'd a 50-50 chance is good odds and aura will definitely help.

There is a bunch of topic here about the path you can pick, cav comm, archer comm, infantry comm, even artillery comm or mixed comm. Once you pick your generals, update generals' skill at least to level 6 for those skill that give duration/radius as they get a nice update there. Cheers
