You get it from leveling up in arena, doesn't matter do you do it in normal or premium. You also get some from Proof of Honour and alot from Epic War. Before upgrading anything else you should upgrade the Golden Spear and then the Shield of Thunder.

So endgame question once i finished epic war i will have 49 pure metal left. Should i just go about upgrading most everything for "maybe use" or idk. They are not rare anymore.
There could be an update with new stuff (but i dont believe in it anymore) I could win a p2w reward (but the game is dead, no events like ew7 stuff) So idk what to do with metal and id rather spend it now when i actually still have gameplay to play rather than finishing and upgrading only for completion. Or is it smarter to hoard... for my stupid f2p economic brain.
Anyway all this to ask: what did you guys do?

I am in the same position with you (although I would have 50 pure metal) but I think it really isnt necessary to just upgrade everything for the sake of it because other item upgrades pales in comparison to the good ones and so much so that there's really no need to upgrade them. Take art of war or fasces of power for example, they really are nowhere near in comparison to, say, the tier 1-3 in kliment's analysis on item upgrades(https://european-war-4.boards.net/thread/16868/great-conqueror-rome-equipment-analysis). Even if you upgrade tier 1-3 there you would probably still have 20-30 pure metals left, that is assuming you completed the game. I, personally, have gallicus, germanic uniform, military map, dragon's shield, tutankhamun's dagger, and dragon tripod that I planned to upgrade soon and I would still have 29 pure metals left. I think the availability of pure metal isn't as limited as it used to be before epic war was created hence even if you were to upgrade some items that wouldn't affect gameplay as much, it wouldn't really punish you. But hey I am only speaking in a hypothetical scenario where I would have 50 pure metals but that would only happen if I were to really 9 star all of the 5 left epic war which is hardly believable, you should also take this in consideration if all of the pure metals left in your progress lies in epic war.

We have more than enough metal to upgrade everything you'd want to use anyway, so just go ahead and upgrade.

wyxelix oh cool i too am at the last 5 missions exactly. Are they exponentially harder? Bc i am not sweating yet. To be honest i never had the feeling i could fail to perfect clear it. I promised myself to replay all of epic war in a year or so without elite armor actually to up the difficulty after cruising trough some of the easier missions.

I promised myself to replay all of epic war in a year or so without elite armor actually to up the difficulty after cruising trough some of the easier missions. I just tried playing from resurrected legion to rise of the barbarian king and I must say each chapters(excluding stage 1 of barbarian king, that's just a monster wave) are one hell of a game. It's long but not as tedious as when one plays conquest, it's more of a bigger and longer hero legend but more enjoyable . If you don't have Hannibal or an f2p who hasn't won him or any iaps that may be his equivalent(I doubt any could be his equivalent but that is a story for another day), I may not be the best person you could talk to in terms of difficulty since Hannibal's contribution at least made up 60% of my gameplay. He's just so good it's like having tasted a delicacy that would make you never go back to what you normally eat, but anyways here is what I experienced:
It's way easier and more enjoyable than what I initially imagined, I said that I could hardly believe I could 9 star all of em mainly because I was intimidated at first(in a way that it will take too much time) and (partly) that it takes too much time but i guess it's like what I felt first at playing some difficult stages in hero legend. If I were to rank the difficulty of the overall chapter 1-3 from hardest to easiest it would be: Resurrected Legion ≥ Destruction of Pompeii > Rise of the Barbarian King. Each stages in their respective chapter really does not indicate their difficulty as it really varies randomly but that does not totally discredit its overall difficulty as it just meant that the difficulty is not linear or consistent per chapter and not that it could not be determined generally. I can elaborate about each stages specifically if you want.
I hope you can notify us when you have done Epic war with no Elite Arms (if possible) as I would also be up for challenge once I see it's feasibility since the amount of mobility in each Elite Arms are crucial to what I've always planned but hey no pressure mate, cheers!

Good luck with that (Achilles laughs evilly somewhere in the background). You will find that difficulty ramps up significantly in the later levels.

Usually finish very early and 80% on the first try (= no scouting enemies) Havent spent legendery armor yet. I will continue this run with elite armor but thats why i would even consider attempting a replay later without.

That one truly doesnt need a difficulty increase. Man my gens were spent halfway trough!
