Hey just wanted to drop by to see what others think of cav generals in arena and a bit in hero legends plus epic war.
If we take out IAPs, A.K.A Hannibal, the only top tier cav generals we have is Huo, Arminius, and Belisarius. By pure strength the best cav gen is probably Belisarius with his war chariot but he’s also the most expensive to deploy. Chinese cavalry cost 155 point too but normal heavy cav costs 90 to deploy.
So the question I have for you guys is who is your go to cav general. Personally from my expirence, there’s just too many counters to cav so I just go with Arminius with Huo on a stock two unit cav army. Is there any secrecy usefulness to cavalry in this game that I’m not getting or is javelin + wood raider + some random other unit spam actually just the best streatgy.
Also if your wondering where I got the cab is weak idea from, compared to Javi eres, they have a lot of counters, orc spearman - Anubis - behemoth - Cyclopes - orc war hammer - goblins (poison on five sticks hurt), while other units like wood raiders or javilins have much less counters to them. (Goblin - behemoth - and spearman for wood raiders and only the Cyclopes really for javilneers).
Also cav doesn’t seem to do much damage to me. My arminius with golden spear hits for only 500-600 on unarmored and around 300 on armored units. My octavian on javlineers can do the same with no retaliation on the attack. Granted, cab can overrun, but for stronger units like monsters or even the boss units like Horus or barbarian king, cav basically becomes useless since they get counter attacked.
Because of this I basically just run a mostly javlineers, wood raider, and horse archer army with arminius with golden spear, ganjing sword, and a five stack to clear out weak monsters and huo on two stack to clear out stragglers or normal units.
I see some people use huo or even belisarius in arena and I want to ask, are they actually good? What you guys build them with? Do you win a lot in arena with them (usually beat free to plays, usually beat sparticus, usually beat Spartacus plus Hannibal, etc). Are they good for hero legend and epic war?
Currently with javelineer spam I can clear the entire game (hero legend, conquests, epic war, campaigns though new epic war I barely won) and win like 85% of the time against free to plays (love it when commander goes up and down the front with octavian without fighting on javlineers), 55% if they have Spartacus + Atilla, and like 2% if they’re a full on pay to win with all the IAPs ( no seriously. I lost all 20 test matches ) I say 2 cause I know I did win against those builds before but it’s more a dumb rng IAPs go afk in rear thing.
Any of you free to plays out there got a good load out to beat the IAP load outs?
