Hello! As in the title, I've been wondering for quite some time now whether it is possible to win the conquest without killing any enemy unit. I've decided - well why not try it - and so here we are.
First of all, I'm talking about hegemony victory, as it's currently impossible to complete all the objectives of any country without attacking other nations.
So keeping that in mind, let's write down a few requirements:
-All present countries must be befriendable (otherwise you'd have to count on your allies to kill them without them attacking you)
This alone rules out 1st and 2nd conquest. Huns arrive too early for any country to befriend everyone else in time and they wreck havoc upon them.
Vikings are everywhere in the second conquest, not allowing you to avoid all the combat even if your allies somehow deal with them and then Denmark
That leaves Rise of the Byzantium and Crusader States.
-Country should start completely neutral or at war with nations distant enough to make ceasefire before any fights can occur
-Country should be financially able to bribe the hell out of everyone else
It basically leaves 4 possibilities:
RotB Ostrogoths
RotB Byzantine Empire
CS Abbasid Dynasty
CS Byzantine Empire
I've decided to go with the latter choice. Pirates will attack you on the 2nd turn ruining your pacifism unless you can ceasfire them instantly. While definitely possible, it's luck based and doesn't solve the other invaders. Mauretani will probably stay alive until avars come to ruin your pacifism (or they can ruin it by themselves).
CS has some other issues like 2-sided conflict, but I found them easier to adress.
While testing, I also found that crusader reinforcements are way more likely in an idle game than muslim ones, so I went with Byzantium for convenience.
Day 1:Changed consul for Justinian, doing all the quests for money, researching some necessary policies (diplomatic and lower building cost), started spamming generals with high Administration in constantinople to ramp up the production of goods.
Days 1-6: Upgrading all the cities to get more money to work with.
What's important: try to fully befriend a country before going to the next one (or make sure they won't call you into losing 40 relations in the process)
After some turns you'll be able to befriend other countries
You can slow down the deterioration with crusader reinforcements by befriending them instantly. They'll still drop by 1 every turn, but that's manageable.
The answer is YES
You can win the conquest by hegemony without any fights whatsoever. Moreover you can do so with Byzantines - a nation well renowned for its fearless bribe armies xDD
This project may be useful in farming hegemony or sth like that, but it's been purely for fun for me, as that's kinda impractical.
