IMHO it is now better to upgrade your current ones and not to buy an infantry Gen since he'd be very vulnerable in last campaign.

Alright it is that time again. I have around 2k medals and am on Modern war now, and I am also stuck on Dawn Crisis 2 mission 6, which requires fortress cracking generals. I also am on Exercise in Panama Canal. So should I save up for Yammamoto or should I buy Yamashita or Rundstedt, or maybe an air general like Dowding or Arnold?

If you have three panzer and two artillery generals then I'd say get Yamashita cause he does a ton of damage, and infantry is actually pretty useful in Frontier mode. If you really want an air general, I'd say get Arnold over Dowding and Yamamoto, simply cause Yamamoto's too expensive and you could use those medals elsewhere.

Okay and when I get Yamashita I’ll equip him with rumor and Infantry Leader? Or Guerilla?

Okay and when I get Yamashita I’ll equip him with rumor and Infantry Leader? Or Guerilla? Infantry units have a ton of health in Frontier so I'd say give him rumour and some kind of damage-boosting skill, preferably explosives. Your infantry generals won't really be attacking normal enemy units anyway so you won't need infantry leader.

Should I be adding explosive to other generals as well? Also I think infantry leader is good since I use S&L in frontier mode, plus I’ll use Yamashita in other places too.

You will waste Yamashita's damage output that way. Infantry leader and explosives are the best for him Explosive works wonders on ur main tank generals that need to bust cities, such as guderian or rommel.

For some reason my Guderian w/ level 5 explosives only does 260 damage to a fortress while Konev with no explosives and level 5 plain fighting can routinely do 300+ lol

For some reason my Guderian w/ level 5 explosives only does 260 damage to a fortress while Konev with no explosives and level 5 plain fighting can routinely do 300+ lol Plain fighting has been proven to work on cities, cuz strangely the game counts cities as plains too. So Konev's own "explosives" is in reality plain fighting though it is not as strong. Artillery generals have higher attack stats and offensive power than tank generals (due to the nature of artillery being hard-hitting) but the reason why you put explosives on tank, not artillery generals instead (well you could but putting explosives on konev deprives him of more useful skills of rumour and plain fighting imo), is because they have the ability to attack twice. This ability can happen in two scenarios - with explosives you can reduce city health to zero in one shot with a sizeable amount of damage onto the city defender, and attack again with much larger damage to the city defender again. The other scenario is one-shotting weak city defenders of healthy level 2+ cities, and then hitting the city again, and possible taking it within the same turn if the city falls in two hits. Therein lies the beauty of explosives on tank generals; this isnt just useful for speedrunners like i used to, but also for securing cities fast in general such that you can establish bridge/beachheads or knock out hostile conquest countries fast.

Okay so I will add Infantry master and explosives to Yamashita, but I don’t want to add explosives to other generals since cracking cities isn’t a problem really. Maybe when i am stuck in frontier mode i will add them to my artillery gens.

Another question I have is what skills should I upgrade? I am an S/L user so I probably won’t upgrade skills like rumor and leader skills and blitzkrieg for now, but what about explosives? Should I level up Yamashita’s explosives to level 5 or should I first give explosives to all my other generals? What else should I do.

I'd say explosives is really useful on a tank general cause he'll be double-attacking. For Konev it's optional cause he does insane damage anyway with plain fighting and it's up to you whether you want him to do a lot more damage to forts or some more damage to everything. You can put explosives on Yamashita after Guderian, and they'll have competing damage outputs.

Plain fighting has been proven to work on cities, cuz strangely the game counts cities as plains too. [...] I don't know this game, but are you sure this works for all cities ? I believe, most cities are placed on plain hex fields and for this reason there is plain fighting working on cities. But if the city is on a hex where the map (not the battle) has another terrain I doubt that for this city plain-fighting will work. In EW4, city-stats cover terrain and fortification stats, but terrain stats always work. I am pretty sure this will be the same even in this game.
