Self explanatory title. Should players, specifically beginners, focus their medal spending on tank and artillery generals, or is having an infantry general worth? I'm not here to debate on which axis inf gen is the best, I'll let other threads do that, I'm just curious if they're even worth. I suppose I played WC4 for so long that infantry only has a small niche for me.

YES!
Alright, Infantry generals are an absolutely necessary part of GOG3. Infantry in general are the most versatile unit, and in GOG3 you don't have to worry about them dying every other turn because you can stack and restack. Infantry can essentially do anything depending on the special force. Wanna slash infantry like a tank? Just use Assault. You wanna destroy tanks? Just use Anti-Tank. Wanna actually teleport? Just use paratroopers. There versatility, combined with their cheap cost and their ability to use fortifications make infantry IMO the second best unit in the game, behind HTs, and Infantry generals magnify every aspect of them.

Yes, especially "4-star" Infantry Generals
Rundstedt - Sustained damage Yamashita - Unhindered damage MacArthur - Critical damage Mannerheim - Anti-infantry damage Vasilevsky - City defense

I do love using Model on Jaeger, and thanks for the insight. So now I just need to think which should I pick: Rund or Yamashita. Rund as IL which is amazing, and his plunder can negate the damage he takes, or Yama with his great speed, BC, Guerrilla, and Samurai (which can help when your stacks get destroyed) Rund's speed can be negated with SFs, but what do you think? Unless you have a different suggestion.

Absolutely. You honestly should have like 3 by the time you finish campaign.

In all seriousness, Rundstedt is probably the second-best F2P Axis general in the game and he is also an excellent HT. Furthermore, he will last forever. Like, you'll only have to recruit a new stack every two turns or so. He has the highest output of any infantry general other than MacArthur. After him, the best Axis infantry you should get is Ushijima. HE IS ACTUALLY SENT BY CHRIST HIMSELF to cleanse the sin of the world. Again.

Is it a meme love, or do you actually find him to be very good? It's hard to read tone over text lmao.

Impossible! AAAAAAAAA
Though I noticed how very effective Mannerheim is against a huge group of infantry units. Observed in Elite Battles such as El Alamein, Myanmar, and Berlin, where there are huge amounts of enemy infantry present. Mannerheim was really good against them and other infantry generals so long as he isn't overwhelmed by tanks or artilleries.

I do LOVE using him as a second infantry general, but he probably is still worse than Yamashita. He is still super powerful and well worth his cost, definitely better than Kuribayashi. Then again, he has been so tied to my name that I have to endorse him any way I can.

Rund has been working wonders for me, especially on Jeager and Grenadier SF. If not, I'll get Yama as well, but who would I get for a second infantry gen for the allies?
