Whilst perusing some threads, several times I heard the claim that 'explosives doesn't work with Air force attacks.' Which is a shame due to the severe lack of skills that up your Air force damage. Without explosives you would just be left with Air force leader and carpet bombing. Compare that to all the different skills that increase naval and land based damage. It's hard to believe Air force could be so underdeveloped. Explosives really seems like the type of skill that would be used by Air force. It shares a similar icon to the carpet bombing skill. As if they are twins...
How do we know explosives can't be used by the Air force? Who tested it and got the numbers? Did someone data mine? Can someone link to the thread? I am starting to believe this is a myth (barring some hard evidence to the contrary) due to the following:
Explosives skill seems to heavily correlate with Air force generals. Among the 4 generals in the game that are primarily Air force focused , 3 of them have explosives. Coincidence? And among all other generals in the game combined, only 3 have explosives. I.e. this is a very rare skill outside of Air force focused generals. It seems like easy tech is trying to say something here. Perhaps they intended for explosives to work, but it's glitched?
In case you are curious, here is the breakdown:
The following generals are primarily Air force generals. And have explosives: Dowding Yamamoto Kesselring
The following generals are primarily Air force generals, but lack explosives: Arnold
And then the following non-Air force Generals have explosives: Zhokov: Artillery/Infantry Hybrid Govorov: Artillery Auchinleck: Tank

As if they are twins... Welcome to the forum! I ran an experiment using Nimitz on a Super tank in Axis 11 normal, and had him attack the nearest bunker next to him with fighters. I read in damage values and recorded them here. Nimitz had a level 5 air medal, but no other air damage modifiers otherwise. Without explosives: 67,67,72,67,67,67,68,68,66,67,68,69,72,66,72,66 - Mean: 68.06 - Standard deviation: 2.05 With explosives level 3 (24% boost): 66,67,66,70,67,70,66,68 I only ran 8 experiments cause the damage values were so similar that I felt that having more samples was redundant. - Mean: 67.5 - Standard deviation: 1.58 So explosives should have increased my mean damage from 68 to about 85, but instead it was pretty much the same.

Thank you for the welcome! I will trust your experiment. This begs the question though... why do so many air force generals have explosives? I suspect an oversight is at play here. To me all the evidence suggests explosives should work with the air force, so an oversight/glitch must be at play here. I might ask Easy Tech for clarification. Anyone know the chances they respond? And what is the best way to get in touch?

Map: Exercise Panama Canal Unit: Super Carrier (naval and Air Force tech tree completed) General: Eisenhower (6-star air, no explosive) Yamamoto (6-star air, Lv5 explosive) Dowding (6-star air, Lv5 explosive) Colson (new general, 6-star air, no explosive) Medal: Excellent medal VIII (80% chance extra action, 3 time max) All damages without Air Force Leader effect fell between 90~110.

Just ran a test to on Arnold with super carrier, USA conquest 1980, with and without explosive 5 each.,bombarding enemy city lvl 1. The damage is about the same between 115 to 152 without critical, and 174 to 193 if critical is triggered. Strange, i remember that about 1 or 2 years ago i ran the exact same test with Yamamoto and that explosive worked on super carrier

I have explosives on Arnold and others to crack and occupy cities/fortresses. It goes well on cruisers and mech. Inf. Which have bonus damage to stronghold units also. In short, regardless of whether or not it affects air attacks from cities (or ACs), explosives definitely helps in at least accessing air and getting inside them and fortresses for ground troops.
