In the previous versions, the crit medals grant 50% bonus to both crit rate and crit damage, meaning a lvl 5 leader skill with medal has a 60% chance of dealing 225% damage. However, the bonus on crit damage has been removed in the last update.
Previously the crit medal provides an expected damage bonus of 75%, and now it's 30. For reference, crit skill without medal has an expected damage bonus of 20%.
I don't know whether it was a bug or not, but it's a huge nerf for the no.1 choice generals like Guderian and Konev.

Aha, I was wondering why my Konev would suddenly do like 100 less damage on average, making him a lot weaker. I think the game's forcing us to grind for high-level crit medals to balance this effect out.

I noted this in a post yesturday also. As Vader has noted, this was probably on purpose so that the critical attack bonus ribbons put us where we were before, damage wise.
As silly as I think it is, I think they are nerfing us so there are still rewards to new missions while not making us even more OP.

Erich von Manstein , I did a damage test with the latest update and with Guderian (lv5 skills; Rumor and Explosive added; Medals for PL, Blitz, AA; no Ribbons) on Super tank against a titan tank in frontier.
> critical hit chance is 20/(13+20)= 0,606 which is very close to 60%
> if the critical hit multiplier is supposedly 1.5 then this would mean that I was extremely unlucky or there are different mechanics in frontier or it's actually closer to 1.3 +- 0.05%
test data
edit: crit% calculation is wrong in the picure

1.3 actually seems high to me for this update without the new ribbons. For artillery it seems to be about 1.1.

1.3 actually seems high to me for this update without the new ribbons. For artillery it seems to be about 1.1. This could be the case or it could be that artillery units have a wider range of min dmg - max dmg and you compared a low roll of crit dmg to a high roll of normal dmg (for example). That's why we need lots of documented results for our deductions.

It's seem the ultimate prize for our grinding process is getting back the power we lost, it should be a JRPG script than a strategy game, lol. And the grinding process needs IAPs to be possible for almost people (except those play this game for very long time and collect enough medals for strong enough team). Nice strategy of ET. P/s: the frontier is now become much harder because of this "nice" change.

That's why we need lots of documented results for our deductions. Before the update I would routinely (like almost 100% of the time) roll 300+ on a crit with Konev. In the two weeks since the update I have not once rolled above 250, and I have a level 2 crit medal on him.

Now, I'm more interested in the follow up question of "what are the current crit chance and crit multiplier and how much can we boost expected damage when combining red ribbons, leader skills and corresponding medals". By knowing these numbers we can anticipate whether it's worth grinding 81 lv1 ribbons before actually doing so
And this nerf feels like us being Cinderella who wants to go to the festival (playing terrorists in frontier, doom war zone) but evil stepmother (ET ) has decided that we first need to pick up lentils (ribbons) from the ashes (there's even a war zone with this name).

Some more testing; it seems that lv3 ribbon brings us already back to original strength when looking at average damage.
Compared to before the "nerf", now crit% is higher and crit multiplier is lower.
Due to the bug with leader medals in earlier versions, we had no increase in crit%, leaving it at 40% max but a very high crit multiplier, which -as you all noticed- has been reduced.
notes: theoretical model in blue numbers 1st column: same as in one of my earlier posts
2nd column: 28 results seems borderline low for calculating a crit rate.
3rd column: I had to use a little different setting, but +2atk and -2 def shouldn't be too bad.

Guess what yuanzhong could do with lv5 ribbon

I know that this is not about medals, but could anyone help.me with some questions about modding? I have a thread about it.
