Basil at Belisarius hero legend hard 6-1 against 1x c cav & 2x m cav legion with scott / woad at lv20
equipment; green gems are added later to form scott 10% gem combo (=sgc) damage output total and on first+second+third enemy unit
single scott, no sgc: 342 single woad, no sgc: 299 =146+99+54
single scott, 1x sgc: 376 single scott, 2x sgc: 376
scott & woad, no sgc: 641 =488+99+54 scott & woad, 1x sgc: 706 =537+109+60 scott & woad, 2x sgc: 706 =537+109+60
--> Every unit gets the bonus dmg and scott 10% gem combo is applied only once.
Thank you for this, very useful. I was doing my crude test on normal Rise of Byzantium 1st battle in campaign (II-1) against the general in the city at the North. Your results make sense and confirm that bonus should be applied to the whole legion and only apply once. Nevertheless, my results are still puzzling. My guess is the higher damages I registered were due to detour activating. But for the lower damages registered, why are they roughly the same!? Is it because with no detour only the first unit in the defender are attacked and therefore damage caps at that unit’s troop? This is my current hypothesis

At least this highlights the importance of detour, which I never really paid attention to that much. This game is like an endless riddle lol

This is my current hypothesis There still are too much variables in your crude test so we can only speculate. If you really want to know you'd have to at least eliminate randomization by using headhunting generals and additionally document stats, equipment as well as units used. Keeping track of which enemy unit received how much damage also helps to identify detour and charge. And be mindful of attack order so your number of troops is always the same.
Solving riddles requires a lot of attention to detail

This is really great work, jonblend. But another question comes to mind: Will the 10% gem combo stack on the 25% unique item bonus when the unit is the same, making it a total of 35% increased dmg? Has anybody tested that?

Has anybody tested that? Not since the unique weapons provide 5% extra dmg/recent update. It shouldn't be too difficult to find out, just use Martel and the franks gem combo (fgc) and test
1) fgc on weapon 2) fgc combo on yellow equipment 3) no fgc but same gems
then compare the results

Same setting as before, but this time I only look at the damage to the first charge cav unit being attacked by Martel with single frank axemen.
A first test shows that he deals the exact same damage for fgc on weapon and fgc on yellow item and less damage without fgc.
For a follow up test I want to know how damage is calculated, so I give him my best gems. Later, I'll swap the orange gem with the lv4 yellow one for no fgc.
results for second test:
fgc active: 270 dmg on c cav no fgc: 247 dmg on c cav
Now if fgc is simply added, damage could be calculated by 247*(1.35/1.25) =266.76 and if fgc is "added" by multiplication then it would be 247*1.1 =271.7
Due to round down and being closer to the test result of 270 we can conclude that equipment frank bonus is multiplied by gem frank bonus, meaning we actually have 1.25*1.10=1.375 instead of 1+0.25+0.1=1.35

Thanks for testing, jonblend, and for sharing this new knowledge. You rule in math 😊
