1) Since you don't buy Arthur, you can skip infantry advancement to conserve medal.
2) Since you have nap, you probably doing ok with 1 artillery. Even without nap, I only use 1 artillery anyway, which was Bismarck, then I replace him with Li Shimin. Basically you can skip Li Shimin to conserve medals. Keep in mind, that he might be useful in arena if you stuck, and he doesn't need any skill update. So pump him up if you have trouble with arena battle and have spare medal.
3) Add Nobu for debuffer, then Attila for cav com boost, then awakening pacha for arch com boost _ If you far from unlock awaken pach, then go with Nelson, then go with awaken suri for cav boost.
That's a lot of medal just from 3. You should be busy until then. I think I see your name in Discord. You should check EW5 channel. It's a bit active there with some new players, and few work on end game so they can chirp in quick advice too.

Why the hell did you get Li Shimin and Suleiman? All those gold generals weren't draining your medals fast enough?  Aside from jokes, get Attila and awakened Suriyothai (if you can get her from the arena), since you already have 3 cav generals. Nobunaga is a must, but maybe you can delay getting him for a while. And get to 155 cities as soon as you can |

However, for 6k medals, you can buy Nobunaga Oda and upgrade two debuffs AND probably buy Atilla to go with Genghis. Also, all "free" gens are usable decoys, except for Barbarossa the inf aura gen. The above mention of Awakened Suriyothai is also a good choice. Aura, troop abilities equivalent to Logistics, and Brave. As for archer commanders, Li Hongzhang is a fierce anti-cav gen, Nelson has 3-hex range, Rani of Jhansi is that weird child of Washington without much of the good stuff and Pachacuti's awakened form is far away. => The points here are to leverage on your good cav and archer gens. |

Perhaps it's better to set up priorities in this situation. I would say to complete a regular campaign (obviously without World War missions) is a nice, worthy and (what is no less important) achievable short-term goal. If I were in Gerdy's position I would skip Attila and bought Suri instead. Then I would get Nobunaga and Li. And - voilà - a team for completing regular campaigns is at his disposal.

Looking at your team, and much like the other comments, my thoughts are that you lack Commanders and Leadership.
Usually Barb fits the bill nicely but there is only Alex to benefit from his aura so you must focus on cav and archers.
A cav Commander is a must so Attila or awakened Suri, and an archer with Leadership so Nobby is the best, but one not mentioned so far and a cheaper option is Mocte.
I was able to complete the regular game with just Hua and Mocte as my main archers, so it is possible to wait for awakened Pachi as the first archer Commander, although Li H will make life easier while you wait for Pachi.
Leave Li S, Alex & Barb as they are for now, but you may want to come back to them for hard mode campaigns and/or late stage Arena.

Okay, so howzabout I grind medals to get Suryothai (I unlocked her yesterday) to Discovery, then I get Li Hongzhang once I get to Industrial. Then I can use the rest of my medals on upgrades until I get 155 cities.

There are several trump cards in the sleeve of Suri when we compare her with other Commanders. 1. She's awfully cheap to upgrade and to promote. One of the cheapest generals in the game. And definitely the best price/quality performer. 2. She has both Plunder and Bravenes, so it is rather easy to keep her alive, especially in battles when units are under our control. 3. There are different ways to increase her crit. chance/ crit. damage attack probability. With a corresponding badge it is possible to increase it up to 40%, which is extremely high for EW5.  |
