The 4 halos to the north means nothing, right? None of the allied AI intend to occupy it, if there were any a mechanism behind it. The rout of the Archers to the south might not be preventable, and so is our flight, yes?
I suspect the French alliance's reinforced troops are supposed to deal more dmg to the target. Or he is simply allowing his own unit to be destroyed by acting as the second rearguard.
Historically, the odds are 2:5 against us but we're supposed to win.
If Belisarius alone can hold the city in Normal, surely with help, he can hold it better?

I was lucky to launch even a counter attack, to secure the city behind for 100%. And to prevent enemies from chasing Sir Walter - both plans worked on hard level as well

I beat it on Normal. Held the city with Alfred, Belisarius, Narses, Justinian and Theodora. Probably Alexios I as well.
Essentially, just hold the city and defeat all the pursuing enemies. Our allies don't advance fast enough to be taken out be the turrets to the NE.
