Howdy folks!
Been grinding EW7 recently. Lots of fun. Battle of Crecy (Hard) makes me want to cry, yknow, standard stuff like that.
For generals, what is your go-to combinations by type assuming similar levels? I'd love some suggestions!
A portion of my build is as follows, with all units being between Level 13-15:
Richard: Knights Templar x3 Baldwin: Knights Templar + Jet Black Armour Cav. + Knights of the Holy Sepulchre Alfred: Knights Templar x2 + Knights of the Holy Sepulchre -- Noble Cav is not levelled. Timur: Imperial Bow Cav + 2 Mamluk's El Cid, Edward the Black Prince, Subutai: Imperial Bow Cav + 2 Mamluke's -- Special units not levelled. Cnut, Robert the Bruce, Basil II, Beowulf: Varangian Guard x3 -- Special Units not levelled
My main issue is Infantry builds though. Apart from their respective special units what should I substitute it with?

One way to include a general's special unit even at lower levels is to put it in the middle position of the legion (for non-ranged mercenaries, third position is also ok). Having a good def inf (lombard, legion spear or modao) would help a lot with this.

I’m recruiting the last slot.

You cannot decide the order, it is always the same. For example, def inf goes first always I think, cav is before melee inf, charge cav before melee cav etc., also units of same class have certain order.
I think most people agree that best inf build is Varangian+Hengdao+General's own unit. And mobility gem is VERY useful for infantry with both terrain mobility skills.

Hengdao hengdao Varangian is probably the most efficient way unless you're rich enough to max out all the infantry units

It's more of a short term solution that allows you to utilize the +25% dmg bonus until you have enough levels on Hengdao and the general's unit (which would normally be put on the front and not survive for long).
