My initial strategies:
1. Tilt the Scandinavian Gambit to favour Sweden and sacrifice Prussia. (Worked)
2. Let Poland be overrun immediately to prevent backstabbing and sacrifice Prussia. (Worked)
3. Sneak into the Balkans and steal territory to march on the Ottoman Empire with Russian aid (mixed results - luck-centric).
4. Occupy Florence (lvl 1 city), draw attention away from Rome and capture Rome (Failed - French troops in Italy pushed us back).
5. Capture Corsica while French attention has been diverted (Failed - France spams troops, heavy fighting on the mainland prevents steady reinforcement, Sardina doesn't help and even falls to the French).
6. Hold out and wait for the Red Storm to sweep through Europe (Decisive success - Coalition counterattack crushes the French alliance, allowing us and Austria to focus on the Ottoman Empire).
7. Morocco Gambit (Didn't attempt / Failed - Spain overruns Morocco).
Turn 1:
- Declare war on Denmark-Norway, Poland and Saxony. This minimises "backstabbing" and allows the Russians to methodically overrun the French alliance.
- Send a unit to Athens to attack it or move towards Istanbul.
- I am unsure if Massena and Jourdan moves automatically or if my advance to Florence provoked them. An alternative is to attempt to storm Corsica with a strong force which I failed to do.
- I don't know if the British are drawn to Italy because of the French or programming, or if whether they head to Athens or Italy is by chance. Their presence would play a key role later, at the cost of taking Athens early.
Turn 7:
- Prussia miraculously survives while Poland is nearly crushed.
- Russian and Austrian aid opens the Balkans up.
- Austrian aid undermines French alliance's progress in Germany.
- Fierce French attacks force us on the defensive but British aid helps to wear the French down.
Turn 15:
- A fiercer fight for the Apennine Peninsula begins with the entry of Italy. I tried to take Rome, with vital British aid, but they know when to spam garrisons.
- Italian and Rhine troops push the Austrians back, but Russia is gaining in strength on the mainland, at the cost of the Caucasus.
- Austro-Russian aid leads to the fall of the Balkans, but fierce Ottoman-Egpytian counterattacks would lead to a long stalemate. Build forts to blast Ankara / the small city to the south. Keep the stables and spam light cav to hold it or take cities.
- I targeted Ankara and failed to take it until late in the game, but perhaps taking the weaker lvl 1/2 city to the south is better?
- The Scandinavian Gambit is in full swing to our advantage. The Swedes will play a key role in the Coalition's counterattack.
Turn 23:
- Unluckily or perhaps it was to be expected, simultaneous joining of the Spanish and Moroccans led to a Spanish victory. Spanish aid slows the Coalition down in Germany.
- A lucky break following a skilful pivot to attack Florence, while Rome is being bombed, leads to the fall of Florence. This opens up northern Italy.
- Ottoman invasion via the Caucasus and along the northern shores of the Black Sea continue. Failed or non-existent Russian response leads to success until the Austrians deploy troops to fight back. Whether Austria does this and succeeds relies on some luck.
- Please send nearly dead or weakened militia from Istanbul to assist the Austrians. The Caucausus will be the Ottoman weakness when we fight back in strength.
- Note the deployment of light arty in Sicily to guard against Egpytian and minor French raids.
- Sardinia falls, sadly, with nothing but some damage to Toulon and Corsica's cities.
Turn 31:
- Austria attacks Venice over some time. I sent some militia from Florence and built a fort to aid them, capturing the city.
- Next was Milan. A Coalition attack with massive Austria aid leads to its capture by Austria, sadly.
- With luck and skill, Rome finally falls. It's time for Italian unification!
- The French focused heavily on me here, harassing my cities and preventing me from sailing to Sardinia and Corsica.
- The Ottoman Empire is regaining strength, swarming me on the outskirts of Ankara. This was a major factor in the statement on this front.
- The Ottoman attacks over the Black Sea and Caucasus are being halted and slowly reversed. Luck is needed for both Austria and Russia to respond with some show of force, especially Russia!
Turn 40:
- Many turns earlier, I tried to land in Algeria or on Egypt directly to attack it. It failed horribly and was a waste of resources. It provoked the Egyptians as well and a retreat into Algeria drew some of the pursuers to Sicily after my troops were beaten.
- Stalemate in Anatolia continues.
- Coalition forces overrun France. French lack of resources and change of targets allow me to storm Corsica at last.
- I snuck into Turin to take it and kept my troops behind my allies in case more cities were opened up.
- I used my existing garrisons and some new troops to attack Sardinia. The aim is to take Palma and move towards Spain and Morocco.
Turn 49:
- Continue to stalk our allies for more cities.
- Press the attack against Morocco. It requires luck for the Spanish to "choose" not to resist strongly, but we still need to liberate it.
- Using the Caucasian route has paid off. We overturned all Ottoman success and opened a viable invasion route while the Anatolian stalemate (which required luck to even persist) continues.
- Build forts to guard against counterattacks, some will come from fresh troops and others from the Anatolian hordes. These forts can also be used to attack cities, if in range.
- Using Turin, I started to generate 4-5 Grenadiers to attack Greenland. Perhaps the Franco-Spanish fleets might've fortunately opened up the Atlantic Islands for us to use as a springboard?
Final victory belongs to us, Commanders.
- The British, after taking heavy losses, rebuilt their army in their homeland and moved in strength against the Danes on Greenland.
- Our Austrian and other allies aided us in overruning the Ottoman Empire and Egpyt, and assisted in liberating Morocco.
- Congratulations on holding out long enough for our allies to sweep through Europe. Our gambles and assistance in tying down enemy troops freed many Russians and Austrians to focus on turning the tide in Germany.
- Although no generals were deployed, do note that we possessed all tech upgraded to their maximum levels.
