So I was grinding medals in the operations, and at Kursk I decided to put Guderian on a field artillery for lack of decent armor units, and god damn did he put in some damage even on field artillery. I'm talking 70-90 range only dropping off slightly when injured. Plain fighting, explosives, and 4* marching really does a lot. I don't think i've appreciated that until now. I think I might use Guderian on field artillery more often now. Especially with Hold the ground VI. (Italy fighting super tanks Patton and Monty)
So of course Govorov has the biggest output out of any general in the game and that's what we like him for, but what about Crerar? max plain fighting, with an artillery and marching medal he could be a Govorov lite for only 400 medals. Of course field artillery makes any marching general look good (Sansonetti/MacArthur) but I feet a special sort of appreciation for the marching-plain fighting combo that I didn't think I felt in the old game.

I mean... Erich von Manstein isn't listed as one of the best artillery generals for such a long time without a reason.

Same vibe as putting Govorov or Vasilevsky on tanks to me, except it would be less marching medal dependent thanks to the built-in movement ability of armor units.

I use Crerar as a stopgap third artillery or tank commander. He has too little health to be survivable but give him marching medals and he can move 2 or 3 tiles per turn on artillery, this lack of mobility being the main issue with Crerar pre-update. For just 500 medals he allows me to focus on upgrading my infantry EC and Guderian first.

I don’t think infantry EC is worthy enough to pursue, because the free Sansonetti can stand in as infantry/air general for a period and even buy Zhu De would be more economic than building an specialized EC from ground up (for the same 1190 medal budget, Zhu De is several ranks higher and has an extra Lv2 supply and Lv2 raider skills)

That being said, it is *really* fun using organization on an infantry general. This makes Union missions more fun and conquests a treat. In any case, an infantry general is needed for later Union missions. All income has to be used for producing nukes, so you can't really produce more units.
