What are the best gens in each category (including p2w)? Come back to the game after a while and wanting to find out. I have quite a few gens but mainly use: Cav - Richard, Genghis, Joan; Inf - Su Dinfang, Belisarius, Basil; Ranged - Timur, El Cid, Atilla; have Justinian for consul. Looking to make improvements to some of these.

I believe Charlemagne is the best gen in the game, olga with skin is top tier. I find Attila to be really outdated but he will make a comeback in a later update. Charles is the best consul by far and mehmed is definitely top 3 archer and possibly no1. Charles makes your life considerably easier if you are willing to pay the heavy price but i would advise against mehmed. Now about f2p definitely subutai if you have his weapon, knut is strong inf and good admiral, robert the bruce, Giovanni best admiral and get constantine and sophia for the bond. Also John 1 is solid. Your crew is very strong already(you have almost every top tier general) but if you expand it you will be able to complete challenge conquests much easier.

Imo the best charge cavs are propably Richard, Vlad and Joan (and maybe Li Jing). For f2p, good other options are John1, Nevsky and Alfred. After the new talent system, melee cav is getting more ground (IF you have them strong enough). Good generals are Charlemagne, Gao Xianzhi, Genghis. Baldwin and Yelu Dashi are useful if you can get their weapon. Other f2p options propably Alexios, Roland. Infantry: Robert the Bruce is the best. Cnut is also still pretty good while also being best naval gen. Murad 1 can actually rival Robert the Bruce imo. Other very good ones are Beowulf, Su Dingfang, and propably Basil for f2p. Oh and Olga is pretty good too. For ranged, Timur and Subutai are top-tier and also f2p. Also good f2p options are El Cid and Giovanni (also second-best naval). Of the iaps, Edward Black Prince is awesome, Attila is very good too. Other very useful gens I strongly suggest getting are Justinian for Consul, Theodora for the bond, Caesar, Matilda of Boulogne and Eleanor of Aquitaine as supports, maybe Murad2 as free from Ottoman conquest, and the Vikings (Ivar and Halfdan) for the bond with Cnut. And last, Sophia (free daily reward) and Constantine XI for the Giovanni bond, useful in Conquest. Whoa, didn't intent to make such a long list, but there you go. Hope it helps.  |

conkueror made a good list. But some points on f2p cav: cav might have a comeback soon it is true, but i am not actually feeling it yet. Turns out li jing is only there to have the jet black cav treasure raid available but i never use the gen. He lacks tankyness or dmg. Same with nevsky his skill kinda makes up for it but idk when i used him last, its rather that i put him on a single swordmen and give the active to bruce. Of all the gens mentioned alfred is pbly the only one who is not overhyped. Alfred is in both charge cav and melee cav a better gen than alexios, roland, li jing, and gao, due to his active, rapid march (charge/ melee flexibility on non-spawned mixed units in campaign) and better defense. Not to say you actually need him on cav: like nevsky his active does work just fine by putting him on any single unit no matter what it is. He was a must in early game as dmg and city cracker but i am totally unconvinced he is still a main lineup gen, his active does remain useful, but siege master timur is better there as well. Gen not mentioned is edward who has forced march who also falls more in the utility rather than dmg category In conclusion there is still no cav gen that i actually use as a cav gen (dmg) and not a utility gen. Vlad may fill the role but currently he again has a new unit so no way its high lvl anytime soon. But is promising. Ah yes murad is best cav gen bc of active but whatever that doesnt count

Yeah, Li and Nevsky might not be the very best options, but I don't think there many better ones for f2p? John, Alfred...? (speaking about charge there)
And yes, I totally forgot the existence of some of the "newer" cav gens with unique weapon, like Edward 3 and Jean De Dunois. And then there is Huynjadi, but his weapon is very hard to get.
