The strategy, as recommended by the game, is to circle, to the south, around the defenders and make for Tobruk ASAP. If you follow this literally, you will fail because there's only a factory and an air base in the way.
The actual idea is to avoid the defenders of Bardia, take Sullum, rescue Tobruk, defeat Rommel, then take Bardia in this order.
Reinforcements bought:
- 3× inf SAS
- 3× bombers (for ROMMEL)
- 2× medium tank
You can use Tobruk's heavy arty to deploy a Katyusha.
1. Prepare the inf and armoured cars to attack the southern factory area. The rest will assist to seize Sallum.
2. Auchinleck will defeat the first enemy wave (or most of them) by Turn 5. Then, he will talk about the SW threat and become usable.
Be careful! Use the inf to defend Auchinleck or he may be defeated.
Deploy the Katyusha and send in our SAS.
At the same time, it will benefit our ships if the naval fort can be destroyed. Do so after Sallum falls.
3. I believe taking Fort Capuzzo or getting close to Rommel may trigger his counterattack. Or it could be scripted.
You have the option to concentrate your forces to take the air base. This will stop future German air attacks. Getting close will cause the defenders to move to attack.
Or concentrate against Fort Capuzzo and draw Rommel out earlier.
Note: It may be worth it to give up the city so that Rommel's tank is within range of the Fort by Sallum, if it stands. However, giving the enemy the initiative may allow your forces to be destroyed.
Use Sallum to recover your inf losses. Heal only your medium tank with a gen in the factory.
Note: Auchinleck may also need to be healed. Account for this as well.
4. After Tobruk defeats all the attacks, send them to attack Rommel from behind. Taking the central-left city is good. It is where you should deploy the Reinforcement medium tank.
After beating Rommel, attack Bardia. Patton got lucky here.
I have max tech. I used Patton, Alexander, Timoshenko, Chuikov, Tassingy, and Cunningham.
