Hello, I didn't see solution of this mission earlier so I had to create new thread. Does anyone know how to complete this mission? I literally tried everything possible, from clearing South, then in other try rushing to take Wallachia, then in last attempt I tried taking Serbia first, then going to Hungary and then to Wallachia, but again, it didn't work. I have all my regular units at lvl20 with lvl5 talents, and as special general I have Robert the Bruce with 3x lvl20 Varangian lvl1 talent. Thank you in advance.

From what I did, I just brute forced it. But here's my advice:
1. Have a group of generals attack west and east target cities. Have a general or two stay back at your already controlled western city (labelled reserve). Have another general defend Sofia.
2. Once the battle initiates, you attack the cities and defend Sofia. Now Sofia isn't a target city, but it's a nice point to defend seeing as it's a city and a spare one at that. It's here that you will try to wipe out as many forces as possible.
3. You'll have some trouble taking the other cities, so I advise putting your war drums to use and forcing your way through. At this point, the enemy should all be at Sofia. Send the eastern dudes to support the defense and clear as many as possible.
4. Once you see a hole, rush to the final target city.
Also for the south, they'll also go for Sofia. The other city is not a target one so it doesn't matter.

Here I am way way later writing. I managed to complete it one or two days after creating a thread. What I did was protect Sofia with archer gens, and use all or cavalry and infantry I could muster to clear Serbia, then Hungary and then Wallachia.

Isn't the majority of the enemy made up of cav units? How did they not get cut down? Lvl 3 anti-cav stakes couldn't save Alexios I on 3Γ melee cav from a one-turn wipe out to the east. Reinforcement Robert with Lombardy Halberds, Varangian Guards and Mongolian Raiders was nearly destroyed within 2-3 turns of fighting.
Can I knock out the Venetians by taking Thessaloniki? If yes, I'll risk losing the western city and concentrate on it.

Use a gen that can hold cities effectively and send the rest of your troops up north to capture the target cities. Your allies will fall quickly. This is a brute force mission so I would suggest upgrading troops and using some war drums if necessary.

Just won without War Drums or the new troop upgrades. (Recommended lvl 10? My lvl 17-20 tier 1-3 troops should've shredded these lvl 10 enemies, ET. Clearly they didn't and you need to revise the "minimum".)
One thing to note about the Venetian / southern front is that you just need to take and hold Thessaloniki and you should tie down the enemy. I wasted too many runs trying to hold the lvl 2 city and Thessaloniki, when the bigger and more tenable city was the latter. I used Subutai with 204 ranged points, his unique equipment, and a charge cav-starting ranged cav-starting ranged inf legion to hold it.
Instead of attacking the western city-state from the narrow southern route, I swung Reinforcement Robert around the mountain (towards Sofia first, then the city) while Murad II (starting charge cav with fresh troops), Antonina (single scout cav) and Theodora (2x starting ranged inf) pushed from the south. => two to three legions attacking instead of one.
On Sofia, I made Alexios I hold the castle while Justinian held the city. Upgraded the castle on Turn 1. The focus is to let Alexios use the Siphahi cav to weaken attackers while letting them wear down on their starting ranged inf. Then, proceed to borrow the strategy of letting ranged legions with one unit make weak attacks on our position.
After the western city-state falls, Hungary is next. Note that defeating the reinforced gen, Sigismund, will lead to a minor morale drop that had little effect. Additionally, damaging the walls of the Hungarian city and the NE city-state will summon reinforcements along the edge of the map.
Through many trials, I toppled the Hungarian city and swept the last target.

For such maps with tight spots I rely on Baldwin/Yelu depending on the situation. Here there are enemy spams while you only need to capture the cities so Yelu Dashi can be really useful. At the start be sure to put your most strong archer general on the ranged troops and siege thessaloniki and then defense. Yelu should be able to push towards one of the cities. Orban Cannon is your friend as always, for the missions without protection there are options but ultimately it depends on your troops strength. If you are not top level you have to use more drums and pick your equipment carefully. Your mercenary summons should be able to take the thessaloniki and lvl3 city in close north in 4-5 turns max so id say focus on your generals.
