Medals can be earned by clearing campaigns for the first time, meeting the requirements for Achievements, by buying IAPs, or farming Daily Missions (the blue icon but you need a good Internet connection).

Exp is earning by defeating enemies, training in Caligari, if you built it, and sending them out on Daily Missions.

You fight battles in Empire mode and win to earn more cities. There are certain invisible requirements to unlock more missions per refresh, which involves taking certain numbers of cities in Empire, up to 10 missions per refresh.
