I need one more charging gen and a ranged inf get, I only got Alfred for charge cav and El Cid, Narse, Manuel for ranged inf, but only El Cid satisfied me.

Timur is the best f2p general in the game btw, in my experience charge cav and ranged inf are the two unit types least used.

Subutai will be quite satisfying once you reach his unique equipment, which can be done even if you hold back on troops in Epic Battles. That is, if you don't consider his Mongolian Raiders ranged cav unit.
I think Li Jing and Nevsky can be looked at, especially Li because he has both the generic cav bonus and the charge cav bonus, IIRC.

I am not sure if charge cav is a good path to choose with limited f2p resources. What I have done is focus on melee infantry and ranged cav. For infantry it is varangian then hengdao,and for ranged it is mongolian raider and IBC. I dismantled the rest so I could upgrade these units. For generals cnut, Robert, timur and subutai should be first picks.
Know that most of the generals and units types need heavy investment. Manuel for example as you have found him unsatisfying, wheras hes one of the strongest picks there if you have his weapon and mongolian raider-memluk-dragoon at high levels/talent.
Cavalry especially charge cav needs high levels to be effective and still you need to watch out their health.
